And another thing AZ CIGAR NUT ...

You should wash your dirty mouth out for being a liar, hypocrite, troublemaker, and wanna-be. Let me make it clear, you can insult me over and over or my brands as well. I have dealt with it for 14 years and never once, on this board, or any other, ever been really insulted. You are the very first.

What you said about the CRA I find INSULTING and INTENTIONAL and it is noticeable in all of your outright inflamatory comments ....

Now think about how you should apologize to all the good people who have worked so hard to keep your premium cigar smoking rights alive - and stop covering up your INSULTS with lies and manipulative statements just so you can look important, like the "voice of reason" or something. If you really wanted to know the answers to your $35 questions, you could have went on line and got every single one of them, except for #4 - WHAT THE CRA IS DOING FOR YOU and #5 WHAT THE CRA IS DOING FOR YOU IN THE FUTURE.

FUCK OFF !!!

I think this article poses quite a silly argument. People can name their sticks whatever they want. Some like classic names and others like to be a little different. I don't personally care.

I personally like non-conventional names. That's not to say that I like incendiary names like "I just throat punched your mom," or "Puxxxy Juice". I have to agree with AZ on the principle of not being able to talk about your cigar in civilized conversation at that point. Imagine your mom walks up and asks what kind you're smoking. What do you say to her with band names like those above? Liberty being what it is, name them whatever they want, but like mentioned above it may or may not mean my business returns to you. Or I may just remove the band and say that "it's some X brand stick, I don't remember, Mom," when I'm asked. Non-conventional names help me in remembering which sticks I liked. A Padron 3000 in Maduro, a MOW Ruination, the My Father le Bijou 1922. Those that go for Robusto 50 guage or a #4, #5, #6 aren't as conducive to that to a noob such as myself. It makes the experience that much more enjoyable since I can replicate the purchase much more easily.

I have to also agree with JD in the sense that if you're that concerned over $35 for a donation, just don't give it. Hell, I've wasted way more than that on sticks that turned out to be dog rockets, or I've lost due to inexperience with humidity. At the end of the day, it's a worthy cause and does work to advance the rights of cigar enthusiasts. So what if only 50% of each dollar donated goes to the cause, while the other 50% goes to overhead? So long as a majority is put to the fight, which I'm willing to bet that it is, what's the problem?

The CRA, without me donating, made contacting my representatives a point and click operation to assist in the fight for personal liberty. I'd call that a pretty good org in my books and one worth donating to after the fact.

Once income is a little more loose in my household I plan on donating to the CRA.

Woosah, brothers.

I would smoke a T52 if it was called. "I just throat punched your mom" and if I liked a cigar and didn't care for the name, I could easily take the band off.
YUP! Would probably smoke it just because of that. Hell just bought beer called "cornholio" because A) made by great manufacturere and B) loved the name!

As for the "different names" ask you b and m what sells more. All 7 or 8 I frequesnt will hands down drop one of those names as their number 1 selling stick.

And last but not least...would probably say that the beanie's and skateboards and video games FAAARRR out number the designer jeans on botl. Just sayin...

I see a new cigar name from Drew Estate.

AZ's Ego Weighs a Ton

I can see it now. Also the true colors comment is just another attempt to poke and start shit. I can see through the innocent bullshit.

And side note...CRA rocks...any questions ever about anything are a email away from them. If anyone is ever curious what they do or where donations go...just email and ask. Or even more simple...like their fb page and see daily posts on what they are personally doing to help keep our rights. Even if people don't smoke nc's and just smoke cc's...doesn't matter. Without their help it would not be hard to say that we would see total ban on smoking cigars in 10 years imo.

Suprised to see you hanging out in the NC world Jim. Being how NC's taste like dirt, I'm suprised you care enough to come down from on high to mingle with the common folk.

My only thing on CRA is that I don't know what they do for me as a cigar smoker that warrants a donation. Maybe it's just about heightened awareness and donations just pay for that. Enough people sure speak out to defend them, so maybe that's the point - just to make people aware cigars are a target? Or maybe they're actualy lobbyists with future plans? I dunno... but I don't think I'm an a-hole for asking the questions before blindly donating.
Sure, they are lobbyists, and they have current plans. They are working on those as we speak. Their schedules and track records are easily searchable. As far as what they've done for you, they've given you a point and click voice to communicate with your representative on ensuring your right to smoke isn't lost as a result of slippery slope politics and domino effects. All you have to do is click I want to send this, tell them where you're from so they send it to the right people, peruse the letter to make sure you're in line with what it says, and then click send. They didn't ask for a donation BEFORE allowing you to do that, but donations like the ones they ask for make that process possible.

Way off topic now but I get what you are saying...but they are 1 step shy of knocking on my door today and brian telling me personally what he did per hour to help ensure I can still walk into a b and m anytime I want. I see it more of why do they have to reach out to you when you have not made the steps toward them. Botl is amazing place but cra is not a sponsor and has no need to spread their info on here. Reach out to them. And like I said...like them on fb. Don't like fb? Try it and see what happens. All you need to like is your favorite cigar manufacturers and clubs...amazing the info u can learn in a short period of time. Might be a bit more passionate than other but just a year or so ago we in michigan were 1 step away from smoking outside at all times...luckily brian and his team really supported us and kept our shops open.

Haha! Oh c'mon now - we're gonna bring up jokes to jab with? I said that about dirt-and-pepper as a joke in response to a guy who said the Cuban cigar factories were probably closing to the public to hide them secretly rolling with Nicaraguan tobacco. He was joking too. Man am I taken really that seriously now?
I don't think not being able to hear a persons "tone" of voice over the net is helping anything on this thread just sayin...

Back on topic, considering how hard the anti tobacco nazis have been pushing their agenda I don't think the naming of cigars plays into it as much as the "author" might want us to believe.

I'm turned off by names that I find unappealing or as I sometimes put it "trying too hard" but I'm not going to say it's no good just because of the name. I just won't buy it. Some like the schnazzie names, I try to stick to things I know has been consistent and has been around for a bit. I may grab a single to taste them but I won't be stockpiling boxes, not that I have many to begin with.
Along with the funny names some "cutting edge" artwork is unappealing. IMO the Gurkha guy looks a bit like a Zombified Pancho Villa. Not really my style I guess. Others may dig it and that's cool but it's not everyone's cup of tea. I don't mean to expressly pick on Gurkha it's just the one I can remember right now.
Lastly if I may say people communicate less effectively when they are stressed and angry. The brothers here keep it pretty cool and I have never seen AZ be a jerk or what I would say was anywhere near antagonistic.
Can't we all just get along?:stretchgr
Glad it's all love here in BOTL land!

Well now hasn't this thread been all over the place . Read the article...eh...maybe some interesting points, but nothing that I'd really agree with too much. Personally I think they're starting shit that doesn't need to be started. If a cigar smokes good, I smoke it. If it doesn't then I don't. Some guys have an issue with the names then okay there's more for the rest of us. If I was handing out a cigar to someone I'd hand 'em a cigar that I thought they'd enjoy. There's plenty of cigars out there that the name issue doesn't even have to come into play. No I don't worry about my mom asking me what I'm smoking and I'm smart assed enough to reply "A cigar" if she did. The same with most random people that ask me. Outside of a B&M and this board, I've met very few people who were actually asking that question because they were interested and not just as a greeting or to have something to say. Just my $0.02.

Dan
