I live in a weird place between like and dislike of DE. I can't chase Liga anymore just like I don't watch hype beast for shoes anymore. It's just too ridiculous. I just had my first Norteno Corona and was actually very impressed with it, which hasn't happened for me with a DE product since the L40 (the HE Lance was also pretty good to be fair).

With all that said, I'm not terribly surprised he chose to go this route. If it wasn't Eminem it would be someone else. I don't see this as pandering to a youth audience per say, I mean the guy is in his forties, but I don't really like the whole concept just like I don't need a celebrity to sell me a Lincoln or skin care products. Much more common practice in Europe than here, but it still always feels slimey to me.

If the cigar was something special in that it's blend was significantly different or if these were being made for a private event, then maybe I'd feel differently. I didn't need 50s name on the bottle to make me try and like grape vitamin water, I didn't need Wayne to sell me mountain dew, and I don't need Em to sell me a cigar. The only thing I am still waiting on is Wu Tang financial... I need to diversify my bonds...

I wouldn't call him a poser ONLY because he did tag them all in his post and he's a rockstar of the cigar world and likes hip hop. If Pete Johnson (also a rockstar) did somethin with say krs 1 or JD did a beiber belicoso....Id consider them posers for that.
Beiber belicoso hahah! I love it.....I get what JD is trying to do, but I'm over all the hype and marketing. When DE does shit like this it makes me not want to smoke their stuff.

I live in the Detroit area and I consider several of the shops slated to get this release to be my locals. I have a few UC sticks in my humi that I've been gifted but its not something I reach for often. Having stated all that, even though I'll end up in one of these shops soon I still doubt that I'll grab one of these. $10 for a UC, even a special edition one, is just not my cup of tea. A couple more dollars and I can just roll with a Liga #9.

I don't mind this project at all and I don't think this appeals to kids at all either. The average Em fan is somewhere between 25-40 at this point and the younger generation doesn't see him as the icon that he was when I was growing up. I see this project as a win-win-win for fans of Em who smoke cigars and the fine people at DE and Shady Records, I just wont happen to be participating.

As to the price I've gotta say that I don't find it to be ridiculous at all. I know what a corona viva goes for online but the average listed MSRP up here at the B&Ms slated to get this release is around $8 so an extra $2 for a limited release stick doesn't sound all that bad to me. I feel like its all overpriced to start with, but thats another conversation entirely; and this comes from a guy who does 90% of his shopping online, so my views are obviously biased that way.

As a final thought where the hell is a Nas cigar? This is actually a guy who has rapped about his enjoyment of cigars as a mature man and veteran of the rap game. If anyone should have a special edition or even a regular release stick wouldn't that make the most sense? And since Kelis robbed his ass blind in the divorce a few years back I'm sure he could use a few extra dollars thrown his way still, no?

Well said, but I wonder if everyone would be just as upset about the Tatuaje Illmatic LE Brown Label Short Belicoso that was only available in the 5 Boroughs :)

Sorry Shrody but I've gotta politely disagree with you. Its a small release under the UC banner. If this release were a special Unico blend or something then I'd say yeah the hype train would be full steam ahead to start craziness. I just don't see the huge potential demand here, just like I didn't see people absolutely losing their shit to grab the Dogma either. I'm sure people who are huge DE fanboys will want in on this just like they would anything else but other than that I don't see it, but I have been known to be wrong in the past like once or perhaps even as many as two times.

Lol well before I joined this brotherhood I actually did NOT like de. All I knew they were responsible for was acid which to me was an abomination especially with the motorcycle guy in the band. Until Id read he was from New York and liked hiphop i would not smoke a muwat which is one of my favorite PE songs and a lot of people don't even know is song. I was like that's bs. But then I read hiphop is his thing but I do get what everyone is saying and I hope more new blends come out not just new branding. I just let people do them tho. Jd is hip hop. Petes got monsters etc

I chuckled.
But Nas smokes And that makes sense. I would see any label using him as just employing a spokesperson and doing a line of product no diff from Nike, and old spice or Campbell's. When I saw Em I was like I've never ever seen a pic of em and a stick. Which is why I questioned it.

Shake, I suppose you disagree with me thinking its a marketing ploy...but to me, attaching a name (which is irrelevant to a cigar smoker) is just a sorry attempt to grab at as much money as possible. Why else would DE be doing it? I can't hate on JD trying to make money, but to me its ridiculous. A good smoke will speak for itself and keep me coming back for more, not a rapper's name...

...although I think a Nas cigar would be ill and he would rule the (cigar) world!

I dont see a potential for huge demand either; I don't think it makes any sense really. And if it were an Eminem/Unico serie it would defeat the purpose b/c it would put the cigar at somewhere around $13 per stick-too expensive to grab new customers and too comical for real smokers.

The Cigar was created to commemorate a milestone, something that is done a lot in the industry. This isnt a full release being billed as the Eminem cigar. A release this size (5000 Cigars) will market itself. There isn't some full scale marketing push on this Cigar, there was simply a couple posts on social media.

I am reminded of the CiGWAR by Tatuaje on this release. Gwar means nothing at all in the Cigar industry and many of the guys at the Gwar-be-que don't even smoke but paid $40 for a 3 pack as a souvenir. My old neighbor bought them and has no intention on smoking them.

Pete did the CiGWAR because he is a fan and was commissioned to do it, JD did this because he is a fan of hip hop and was commissioned to do it. There is always a couple bucks a stick added on to these types of releases because there is another party involved that profits as well. Tatuaje and DE don't need to do this to make money, they already make money. In fact, I would bet all the work for a smaller run probably yields less profit then the regular production stuff does.

It is what it is, as a consumer you have the choice to buy or not too. I guess I just don't see the point of getting so worked up about cigars, just smoke em and relax.

i see it like this...DE's business ethics/marketing gimmicks go against mine, however, i will still smoke the shit out of a liga and you'd have to be insanely unfair to call all DE cigars garbage. just like i like led zeppelin for their music, not for Jimmy Page dating a 14 year old... and before anyone asks, idk where in my brain i just pulled that analogy from, but the whole discrediting a band/brand thing seemed cohesive.

Five years from now in 2019 we will probably see a 50 year tribute (very limited of course) for Woodstock called Feral Wavy Gravy from JD. I know this is showing my age, but Wavy was a pig farmer which would fit in with the Pig theme.

Personally, I think the CV is the best of the UC line that I have smoked. I see no reason to spend $10 for a $5 cigar, no matter who's name is on it.
