Before my buddy had kids we played alot of golf together, but he wasn't playing golf with us as much once he had his first kid and started remodeling his house. As strange as the gift registry thing sounds I think the reason they do it is because they both have large familes and it may help them figure out what to get for the kids. As far as the friends go, we aren't to keen on the idea of getting them twice a year, I don't know if the intent is to get a bunch of gifts, but it has a few of us wondering...

Plush, I don't have any kids and he invites all of his buddies to these events and does the whole cookout thing as well.

No one should feel obligated to have to buy something for all these events. If you want just buy what you choose and don't forget on your next birthday to send him an invitation a registry card for the cigars you want!

I would agree it should depend on the ages of the kids. I remember my grandma spending 200 dollars for my b day and Christmas so 400 a year when I was like 10. Now she give me 40 dollars. I really regret wasting that a year on crap like backstreet boys CDs and cowboy and Indian plastic toys.

I would say gifts are not something you should ask for. 100 is rediculous especially if asked for. I would give the kid what ever you want to give him for get the dam registry what ever that is. sounds dumb, like something you would do at a wedding. If they do not like your "cheap company" then they can suck money from someone elses pockets.

I think they probably good people and just send everyone the same invite and don't really expect 100 from everyone if they do they are loaded upper class rich mothers.

Bring beer to the BBQ.

Bring $10 Wal-Mart GC to the Birthdays.

Everyone loves beer, and kids love stuff to put in their wallet.

What bob said. I've NEVER heard of a gift registry for a house warming. EVER. OR for a child's birthday, for that matter.

Gift registry for a baby shower, maybe. A wedding, well yeah. But the other stuff? Nope.

Get the kid a gift card for a bookstore and a bday card, if you're so inclined.
Gift registry for kid's birthday? Never heard of it, and with a 13 year old and several nieces and nephews I'd have heard by now if it was a common thing to do. And expected to give a friend's kids $100? WTF is that about? We generally give a present or gift card about $20, maybe more if we're close to the family. BUT NOT $100.

Buy the kid some cigars. By the time he's old enough to smok 'em, they'll be well aged.

Or maybe a hardcore CD or two...set him right.

It's funny you say that, a buddy and I were joking about that last night. Throw a couple dog rockets in a box and tell the kid, "like you, these may or may not be worth something when you're old enough to smoke them". :inlove:(just kidding of course!!)

How is the wife? Seems your friend lives down the street from me. They love to have us over for bdays, not good enough for reg weekends anymore though. All thanks to her.

I would buy the kid something small. Then bring a couple extra sticks and try to get a few minutes alone to smoke a cigar with him and tell how ya feel. That is pretty tacky to send gift registry cards to anything that is not a wedding or a 1st baby shower! Hope this helps!
