Thanks guys for the input. I really like the accessories idea in conjunction with idea #2. If there are legal restrictions on the tobacco itself (I'll check with our MA state laws), I could always gift the sticks as part of the deal (a behind the scenes offering)...

I also like the idea of mentioning BOTL and will do so.
+1

#2 with some accessories and you got a great package that anyone that is a cigar smoker (occasional or not) would jump one.

I agreed with #2, more of a complete kit with a cutter, ashtray, torch lighter, and a nice handful of sticks. If they don't have them at home, you've set them up, and if they do, hey who doesn't need another lighter?

I'm still surprised it passed the committee. You know, everything being overly PV and all. Good for you!

Yep #2. I think with a starter set including a humi, some sticks a cutter and lighter may entice people who have always had an interest to dive in and bid. Throw in a BOTL hat and a bidding war will probably break out!

Gents,

This is a private preschool at our local church and the committee is made up of mothers from our community. I think the mothers are giving their men something other than wine and spa treatments to hone in on! Lol... I read up on our bylaws on tobacco sales and it is not clear to me if in this scenario it would be illegal or not. Probably not a big deal, but I will definitely check with the local authorities so I don't run afoul or get anyone else in the hot seat. Worst case scenario, I will mention in the auction that the bidding is explicitly for the humidor and accessories and the winning bidder can expect a gift from me after the sale. I think that would be safe enough. In any case, I think the item should garner some interest, but who knows, right?

I think I will also talk to my local B&M about a gift certificate. If I agree to purchase the merchandise through them, would they throw in a gift certificate as an added bonus? Can't see why they would want the new business.

Fun fact... The guy from This Old House (Kevin O'Connor) attends this event as his daughter attends this preschool. He's a pretty cool bloke.
