I thought we talked about this before, but I cannot find the thread.

Gas has gone over $3.00 a gallon again around here. It's ridiculous! There seems to be not justification why either. I'm happy I now have a car with good gas mileage and not my truck that used to get 12 miles to the gallon.

Also, it seems like CT has some of the highest gas prices on the east coast.

Last time I looked, it was $2.49 here. I only fill up every 2 weeks so it may be higher than that now.

Home heating oil, the cheapest I have seen around here is $2.39 a gallon. Glad I got it in January at $1.82 a gallon.

It's the US NAVAL presence off the coast of IRAN and the rumors that the Iranians fired on us....threat of more war...

....plus a bunch of B.S. from the greedyassed oil companies. Bastards, every damn one of 'em.

Gas went up because of the increased middle east tensions with Iran holding Brittish troops. It's $2.59 here.

Not to sound like an ass, but why the hell are we complaining about gas prices when we spend $5 to $25 for a cigar. Plus there are a lot of reasons prices fluctuate its called a market. (reserves, taxes, new discoveries (or lack of), speculation of the future turmoil in the Middle East, you name it...)

If we really want to complain about something let complain about coffee prices and how they charge $4 for a cup at Starbucks (now there no reason for that) or about the $3 you spend on milk (thank you price floor). We could even complain about the corn prices which have caused gas to go up. There just seems to be too many people who complain about spending money on things they need (like gas) on a daily basis while spending more of other items that are truly optional. I'll get off my soap box now but all the drilling, transporting and refining that it take to produce gas for you to drive is definitely more difficult than milking a cow or even rolling a good cigar. Oil companies are just easy target and ignorance seems to drive this debate.

Sorry if I offended anyone, but that's my $.02.

I'm tired, sick and cranky but think about this instead..... The cost of plastic is going up to due to the oil costs going up. That has begun to effect everything from medical to consumer products. I have even seen it drive raw materials costs so high that small companies have to lay employees off to pay for the material to make parts for their suppliers.

That plastic mild jug, yes the cost to make that has gone up so the price of the milk has to compensate for it.

Or How long will the insurance companies tolerate it. For example i'm cranky because my mother sits in the hospital tonight and they try to figure out whats wrong with her and she has all these medical products made of silicone and other plastics connected to her, which have gone up in costs to manufacture due to the rise in the raw material prices. Each one they chnage or use costs more. When will insurance get tired of those rising costs and decide to put it back onto the sick people?

Gas prices are $2.49 here right now. Prices have gone up recently for a couple reasons, although I am not sure they justify this large of an increase in such a short period of time. The cold spell that hit the east coast last month drove prices up because all of a sudden everyone needed that heating oil, that combined with new summer blends (summer blends are more expensive) are a couple reasons gas prices have gone up, not to mention this expensive little scuffle in the middle east that seems to be going nowhere fast.

I am not defending the price increases by any means, and I don't think the comparison between gas and coffee, or cigars is a fair one. Gas is a necessity to keep houses warm, and cars going. Coffee, bottled water, cigars, etc, are all luxuries in life, not necessities (ok maybe for a few people they are). The thing is, I can't do my job to earn money and support my family without gasoline. I can do all of the above without bottled water, coffee, cigars, fast food, the list can keep going.

I took my wife and daughters to Disneyland about a month and a half ago, since then, the price of gas has gone up $0.60. I am just speculating here, but when prices do start to drop again (keeping my fingers crossed), it will take the better part of 3-4 months to drop $0.60.

I wish I had a honda sometimes. They are saying the prices have gone up due to all the construction going on over here in Pasadena, TX at the refineries. Im trading in my wifes suburban next week for a newer one. They have smaller engines and better gas mileage than what we have now and my truck in for a diesal... In the end we all still pay somewheres.

$2.39-49 here. Good ol' Forester gets about 28mpg, so I can't complain too much. I mean even a $0.50 difference in gas is only like $7 difference per tank.
And we still have some of the cheapest gas on the planet.

I drive an '06 F150 and get about ~13MPG. $0.50 increase per gallon costs me an extra $15 per tank. Right now I pay just over $75 to fill up and I have to fill up about once every 5 days. I would rather put that ~$100 month into some new cigars to fill up my humidors.

Smaller cars get better gas mileage. Houses with more insulation cost less to heat.

This is supply and demand, people.....

With the middle east in a state of chaos, the Gulf of Mexico recovering from a hurricane and US refineries at capacity, gas prices are going to go up.

$2.65 here

I have no idea why it is going up and I am not gonna bitch and moan about nor defend why.

I'm just glad I don't live in some of these other places in the world where gas is upwards of $4 a gallon. Link

First off, Derek sorry to hear about your mother, and hope that she starts to get better.

I realize that higher gas prices definitely hurt business (assuming that they are not able to pass that cost on to their user), but as for firing people. This is a hard to sell since we have such a low unemployment rate. I'm not going to claim that no one has lost there job, but I would argue that its not that prevalent.

As for using the extra money for cigar instead of gas, I doubt anyone would disagree with that philosophy. But the last thing we want is a cap on prices, for this would ultimately lead to a shortage like what America went through with Carter.

If we really want to be upset with anything it should be taxes on the gas. I don't know what the exact amounts are for every state, but I know that the government makes more off each gallon of gas than the oil companies. In fact New York even taxes not by the gallon, but by the dollar.

And my last comment is for Halon, we don't have the cheapest gas. Anyone who want to live with the fascist down in Venezuela you could get your gas for less than a buck, but you would also have to drive a run down 1960-70 car on dirt road and have a house made of only a slab of concrete w/ a tin roof (if your lucky). Anyone volunteering...

I know we don't have the cheapest gas, that's why I said some of the cheapest gas. Unless you live in a select few countries in South America or Asia, you probably pay a good bit more for gas than we do. Just mekkin' a point that even though it seems outrageous to us, in comparison we've got it pretty good.
