Was taking Glucosamine - Chondritin - MSM for 3 years... lost my job and cut it out due to cost.... .my knees definitely went downhill fast. When I went back on it, the pain stopped within a month... so I swear by it.
Same here. I took it for a couple of years when I started running. Money got tight since my divorce, so when it ran out, I didn't buy anymore. My knees have not been the same since. When Costco puts it on sale, I will definitely buy more.

Hey DMV can I give this stuff to my 13 year old golden retriever? His hips are bothering him.
yes - use the stuff with the highest mg - usually around 1500mg. Like stated before - can take quite a while before you see results.

Works great. I combine it with vitamin E and Omega 3 and between the three of these my bad knee doesn't bother me as much as it used to. Trick is to take it for a while. It takes about a month before you notice it kicking in.

This stuff is all smoke + mirrors ... just like 99% of the supplements on the market.

If you believe it helps, go ahead and spend your $$$. Most likely the results you get will be related to the power of your mind vs. any real physical improvements.

I wouldn't say 99% don't work, although the percentage is probably pretty high. The thing people forget is these are 'supplements' they are meant to supplement. Keep in mind the study you provided was for arthritis, not your everyday joint pain. Glucosamine is naturally found in cartilage so saying 'it's all in your head' probably isn't the case.

Sorry for my short rant.

I am running three miles a day after a twenty year break. Dropped 31 pounds so far but the knees are definitely complaining. I had my doc check them and he said no grinding or problems and that I most likely have strained a things a mite. I thought if I could strengthen them up a bit it might help.

Where do you buy your running shoes? That could be your issue.

We give our dog glucosamine. He has some treats that are infused with it, the dog food has a bit in there, and I think we even add something on top of the food with more glucosamine and omega 3 oils.

It's made a big difference for him. For a while he was starting to hesitate before jumping into the truck-a few weeks on that stuff, and he springs right back in there.

Working in pharmacy, I saw this stuff become super popular, but recently it has become less so. As has been stated already, it is worth a try, but only because there are a lot of anecdotal positive results. This is the case with a lot of supplements (aside from vitamins and the like). Talk to your orthopedist if you really want to figure out the cause of your knee woes, and see if he can do anything for you. One of the best things you can do is find a way to exercise the surrounding tissue/muscle specifically.

walking sideways on the tread mill will strengthen the side muscles and help with the knee pain.

Thanks for the feedback. Many years ago I began using Saucony running shoes for the ankle support. My doc says most of the joint pain was due to age and starting up running again. I tried joint juice as a Marine I know swears by it. I don't know if it helped but I know the regular exercise did. Most of my running is cross country at 4 to 5 miles six days a week. Knees are fine now. Sciatica is a bitch.

It works for me. I've been taking 1500mg Glucosamine / 1000mg Chondroitin (2 tablets) for about 15 years. I tried it with 1500mg MSM and my knees started hurting :nono: so I'm back to Chondroitin. :sing:
