So I'm planning on talking to my gf dad today. I've been dating my girl for about two and a half years and I think it's the time to take it to the next step. I'm going to go ask for his permission to have his daughters hand in marriage. I'm a little nervous, I don't think he'll have a problem with this but still nervous. After I do this then the real hard part comes along, picking the engagement ring!

Congrats!! I remember when I asked my father in law for his permission! Once you just get it out it's all game from there.. The mom is easy and your mom should be a breeze haha!

Congrats again brother!! And welcome to the dark side! Well almost!

Whatever you think is best Brother. I asked both, but it depends on who wears the pants in her family.
If her dad is the disciplinarian and major decision maker, and mom plays the traditional wife role, then just man to man. If not, consider having them both there.

Congrats man. While it is a big question, don't be nervous. You've been together awhile and if you and the family get along well it's just a formality. If they didn't want you around you would know by now

Congrats! I asked my Father in Law at Thanksgiving. Told him I needed some advice on what to do with this old gazebo. We walked outside and he's just talking and talking about what to do with the gazebo. I turned to him and said, "I really don't give a shit about the gazebo but...". It's a cool story he tells every so often and I think it meant a lot that I asked him one on one.

Hell yeah!!!!! Good luck brother

I went out to my wife's dad's work one afternoon and then called him. He came running out thinking something was wrong then I popped the question. Was trembling lol but he couldn't have been happier and more honored that I went the old fashioned route. He then took me thoug through his workplace and introduced me to his co-workers telling them what just happened. Great memory! Hope the sane happens for you :)

I asked neither but then again while we had known each other for a while, we had only been dating five days.

In your case, I would ask both. It would make it easier to deal with them in the long run and they would both be on board and feel better about your relationship. But I'm not a counselor and don't play on on BOTL.
