NEITHER, I actually compost most of mine. I have two 3x3x3 compost bins in rear of my yard. So I mix grass (greens) with house scraps like lettuce, banana peals, apple cores, almost everything (also greens) with dried leaves (browns) I save from the fall. I have 1 bin for active hot composting in the spring thru the fall, then move the entire heap to the other bin for until the next spring. I take almost all the ready compost for my veggie garden and some leftovers for the front of the house shrubbery.
Ahhh, but you have to bag it in order to put it in the compost bin right?

The old Lawn Boy mower has a bag. I just dump it into the bin and mix well with a hard rake exsisting mostly browns. Add some water, cause the heap dries out very fast when the compost gets activated. The pile can get to like 140 degrees too. Smells like sweet earth, none of that trash or ammonia smell. When you just pile up grass alone, look out for that ammonia stink.

I may have to change my vote on this. The past couple summers I've used the side shoot on the mower because I was so busy working on the house I couldn't keep up with the grass. It got so tall it would bog down with the mulch feature.

This year I've been getting it cut regularly so I tried the mulch deal. Man, the yard looks nice! The only place it strained the mower and left some visible cut grass was a couple places where the grass is heavier and I shot grass in the middle of two passes last time around. Most of the grass that was left laying on top was dried grass from last week. I raked it up so it shouldn't happen next week. I think I'm liking this mulching.
