I have the 70% beads in my desktop humidor. (One on the right is in my desktop)

I have had them in there for maybe a month now and today I took them out to see if it needed more distilled water. The stick just lies right on the cedar inside and there was white stuff on the wood what I believe to be pieces of dried out beads. Why are the beads crumbling and falling out of the perforations? I don't smash them around. Are they too wet when I refill them? I take the black cap off the stick and pour full cup of water over them. Is that too much?

I could maybe lay a plastic baggie under it?

Has anyone else had this happen?

Here is an older picture it is much fuller now days.

you should not be wetting them that much... the beads don't need nearly that much water.

that is way too much water. also whenever you directly add water the beads can crack on you. i use a small travel spray bottle and wet them down that and still crack on me every now and then.

I just bought a pound for the first time and immediately powder was coming through the bags. I laid down the 1/2 pound mesh bags full that they sell on my counter and there was fine powder left behind. This was before I put any water on them... I just figure there will be dust particles left behind until they are moist. That could be what was going on. I didn't really notice it after I put them in my humidor.

Here is what I do:

Take a strainer with holes small enough the beads dont fall through but big enough for the "crushed" bead material to be sifted out. I then put my bag of beads in the strainer over a sink or garbage can and shake gently, the crushed/minute particles will fall through the holes leaving perfect beads in the strainer.......I say you lose about 2-4% of the material but it is very helpful in preventing bead dust in your humi

Thanks guys. I always though that beads were too easy and there should be more to them. And there is:
