So, we were talking to Pete Johnson at the Leaf today, and I posed a question. Pete is friends with Dion Giolito of Illusione and I asked him if he would ever consider doing another version of the "Faceoff" as Litto and Camacho did earlier this century. He said he wouldn't be against it, but Don Pepin would have to agree, as well as Dion of course. What do you guys think, should Pete and Dion do "Faceoff" round 2? Or do you have another suggestion for a "Faceoff"?

Litto Gomez and Christian from Camacho gave each other enough tobacco to roll 50,000 sticks each. They were allowed to add in some of their own tobacco and the goal was to out-do each other.

That's interesting... I don't know if this face off would work since from what I understand it Don Pepin who blends Pete's stuff after he tells him what he wants.

yeah, neither Pete nor Dion "blend" their cigars. It would be closer to say Pepin vs. Arsenio Ramos. That said, there are some "similarities" to both Pepin and Ramos blends, very earthy, spicy and rustic smokes. It would be more interesting to see a greater dichotomy.

Litto's go at Camacho was an EXCELLENT cigar.

Personally I'd be more interested in a Padron vs. Fuente match-up. That would be interesting.

I wouldn't say that Dion doesn't blend his own stuff. The guys at Drew Estates would beg to differ with you on that. He may not have his own factory, but he does blend his shit. Nosotros being one that I am positive about. Pete, on the other hand, I'm not positive about, but I can't imagine he's not making the call either. Once again, no factory, but blending... I think so.

Actually guys, both Dion and I pick what tobaccos we want to use for every blend and the masters put it together for us. The differences between us and Litto and Christian is we don't own our factories and we don't grow or process our own tobacco. We work with finished material that our factories offer us.

Thanks for clearing that up for us Pete. Have a great event at Draper's today and we'll see you in September at the Burning Leaf.

Maybe this is a matter of semantics, Pete. But do you know what the tobacco is, or is it more of you telling Pepin you want it stronger, or with more seco, that sort of thing. I've heard pepin doesn't tell people that he makes cigars for what he's using in the blend, he just gives you the blend and you tell him if you like it or not. Or is that just bad info? Or do you two have a "special" relationship (that looks wrong, sorry :) )?
