Like I said, everything else is spot on from my "expert" opinion. Hey, and if I'm an expert, we're all up a creek.

Haha no, He's a Canadian professor that takes trips out to Cuba annually.
He's doing a sabbatical here in San Diego and decided to sell them off.

Thanks everyone for your input, the lack of the date stamps does raise a reg flag.
Well, if he bought them off the street, they were probably right beside the glass top Cohibas.

Bought in Cuba does not mean authentic factory Cuban cigars (from what little I know). Probably Cuban tobacco and from Cuba, but not from the Montecristo factory.

So did you just meet this guy or have you known him for awhile. That sounds kinda fishy that a "professor" would be on sabbatical and wanted to sell off some smokes that are illegal in the states. I bet it's an amazing deal, too. I would tread lightly there.

The Cuban government strictly controls the Cuban tobacco market. From all I understand, if it has Cuban tobacco in it, it's not likely to be fake. Now, rebanding Piedras and stuff like that I could see, but those bands look to be authentic from what I see. If you're going to reband you usually see fake bands. And the box is legit, other than the boxcode.

I'm a little stumped on these, just cause of the boxcode and stamp. Well, and then the source.

All in all, I don't think it's a genuine box of Monte's, but they might not be all that great of a cigar either. The last few cigars on the right look a little water damaged.

Even Cuba has a rash of fakes. Tourists are always looking for a bargain and if they see a box for 30-40% cheaper than in the gov't store, they'll buy it.

True that. You gotta admit, though, as dark as those suckers are, they'd be a great smoke if they are real!

Can't tell much about the caps from the angle of the photos.

I agree with Nick, the red ink looks awful. Then again, this is Cuba and the quality control is very suspect. The lack of a boxcode disturbs me the most.

your right "thats cuba" but, just take a second to look or remember, have you ever seen a tax seal like that ever? not on a legit box i bet.

andrewdill, looks like you might have cubans, but not habanos.

Andrew , what is your gut instinct? What made you wonder about them? What about the tax stamp?

Weird. :scratchhe From what I have seen posted, there should be a box code on the bottom that is burned in to show the month and year produced. Not an indicator, just an issue and possible clue something is not right. Getting a box second hand as it sounds you are, consider the person and their source very carefully. Good luck.
It's first thing I look at when get a box Steve...
Just noticed something, no box coed or date stamp. Don't think I've ever seen a box w/o those.
that sucks Bro...:angryteet

Missing boxcode stamps alone is not indicative of fakes. I have had 2 boxes (an H. Upmann and Partagas) box that had no boxcode stamp but were perfectly legit. "It's Cuba"

As a whole, that is the first and most obvious red flag. The second red flag would be the incorrect red font on the guarantee seal. On studying the gurantee seal some more, the colors and the print seem off. The third red flag would be the quality of the wrapper on the cigars themselves.....they look pretty rough. Lastly, the fourth red flag woudl be that he purchased them in Cuba probably on the street which almost always equals fakes. Of course the proof is in the actual smoking of one but me thinks there's enough evidence present to steer clear.

Also, from what I understand, Cuban cigars are always sorted form lighter wrapper to darker, from left to right.
These are all mixed up.

Plus, the bands should be even all of the way across.

Yeah, what with the missing box code and source and all, I'd probably pass. There's a plethora of great vendors out there, too.
Not sure if it's an appropriate question, but how much was the prof asking for the box? Just out of curiosity.
