Every time I retrohale it burns, like crazy (even if I just do the tail end of the smoke.) It never burns with cigarettes, always with cigars. So, I almost never do it.
My advice, though, is to keep trying it. Maybe 2 or 3 times per stick, until you get used to it. All the exotic flavors that people taste in cigars always seemed like a joke to me, until I learned to retrohale properly. It really adds a lot to the experience for me, and I think every smoker who does it would say the same thing.
Yeah, just can't try it in public. I spaz out and paw at my nose like a dog. Maybe I need to try with a milder stick then my usual suspects.

My nose ends up burning everytime that I have tried it. But I still do it from time to time. I guess if I keep doing it, Ill eventually get more used to it to where I dont feel like my nose caught fire.

The trick is to expel part of the puff out your mouth, and part out your nose, or do both at the same time. Always start with less at the beginning of the stick, and increase as you go, and you can retro hale the whole puff near the middle of the stick. Beware of vitamin N, as it's effects are amplified with more retrohale. Use carefully on churchills, and A sizes!

When I first try to retro hale I did it with a pepper bomb of a stick and it felt like I roasted the complete inside of my face, so I slowed down and learned which sticks I could and couldn't blow a lot of smoke on the retro but roughly 3 years later, retro everything almost every puff, you can get amazing flavors on the retro, never would have believed someone 4 years ago if they told me they were getting a fruity taste out of a cigar, but it's possible and it's very enjoyable ! I normally find myself doing it every few puffs. I tried to go on a walk with a smoke last night and found that when trying to retrohale I would run out of breath (from walking, who woulda thought) and accidentally inhaled some back in. Lungs were feeling that for sure. Flavors certainly come out in droves when I retrohale though. Will keep in mind to have full lungs when I puff to avoid inhaling the smoke back in me lungs.

I retrohale probably 1/3 of all puffs, though I only retrohale the tail end. I find myself french inhaling a lot more nowadays though.
