I've been reading various threads here for a few months; particularly those regarding storage, humidor seasoning and coolidors. I finally signed up in November. Unlike many related sites, the BROTHERHOOD here has been exceptional and unmatched. I won't name names, but a few of the sites I visit try to make a game out of harassing the "FNG", or newbs. I'm a mature father of two 20-something year olds; a grown-assed man as we say in these parts, and I don't take life for granted. Needless to say, I felt welcome here just reading the advice and replies to legitimate questions and I hadn't even posted yet. Now, don't get me wrong - I don't mind jawing smack back and forth when the situation allows!

In any case, I'll make this my formal introduction by adding that, I work in public service in Texas, with occasional stints throughout the US. For at least 25 years, I've smoked an occasional cigar here and there, mostly on hunting trips or charity golf outings, but I knew nothing about brands, wrappers, sizes/shapes, or strengths. I recently started my own collection. Most of the stuff I've acquired has been online. I frequent the local B&Ms and grab a few sticks when they're not too pricey. My young stash is still aging/getting acclimated in the humi. I'm still waiting to experience the distinct flavors and nuances that I read so much about. A cigar I smoked long ago left me with an impression of a buttery, almost creamy, scotch flavor that I've yet to find. I drink a lot of coffee, tea and a few dark Shiner beers, and I seem to like maduros and mediums with those beverages. My collection is mostly Robusto sticks with a few Torpedos. I'd like to eventually find a "go to" stick. Any advice or direction is greatly appreciated. Merry Christmas and Have A Happy New Year!

Welcome FNG - now go smoke a White Owl...hey, just teasing....seriously, welcome! :welcome:

So many choices for so many great cigars. I hesitate to give you advice because what I like, you may or may not like. My "go to" stick is the CAO Brazilia Amazon (it used to be the Fuente Double Chateau Maduro). For a cheapy go to I really like the Perdomo Maduro Mistakes (http://www.cigarsinternational.com/proddisp.asp?item=CS-20A&stext=Perdomo mistakes).

Welcome. I am going to forgive the A&M avatar, in the name of the brotherhood. Enjoy your stay here, read the stickys at the top of each forum, they offer a lot of insight.

Go Longhorns
