My wife and daughters are starting a craft project. A prayer pot inspired by you! Yours will be the first to go in.

One thing you should remember to do is keep yourself on normal business hours. Wake up at the same time as though you were headed for your job. Make a plan for yourself everyday :

1. Search the papers, internet sites, etc for new job listings
2. Keep networking with old business associates, friends, clients, etc.
3. Call up some headhunters and ask about the job market in your field and possibly semi-related fields
4. Consider taking some college classes to fill gaps in your experiences or to possibly check out a new career path.
5. Widen your search area for jobs every week or two. Perhaps a temporary relocation would provide new leads.
6. If nothing else just stay productive during the day with other projects. Hell, with your woodworking talent, maybe you could make some humidors and sell online or via local tobacco shops.

There are plently of ideas out there you might never have considered.
Good luck.

don't get down on yourself.

I don't know of a single friend that has been laid off and not found himself in a better situation within a short time.

Wade, hang in there and know that we are praying for you and that this too shall pass. During this time of introspection, take stock of who you are and what it is that you'd like to accomplish with the rest of your life.

Shake off this sense of failure, for indeed, you are not a failure. Hold your head up and know that the best is yet to come. For it is impossible to keep a good man down.

...then introduced me to Vince and ever since we've been inseparable. We go to Sturgis together every year, spend several weekends a year at each others houses, talk on the phone almost daily...
Even though you're a teenage girl trapped in a grown man's body :grinFU: I wish you all the luck in the world! You'll get through this, dude; you've got more talent in more ways than most people do, and you've got the right attitude about life, so you're gonna be fine.

Now go put on your Hello Kitty panties and buck up, soldier!

Wade,

Everytime I lose an opportunity a better one comes around. I can't think of a single time that an employment opportunity didn't work out that it turned out to be the best one at the time. I've always improved when a door closed. I think you'll really find the same in time.

As far as your woodworking skills go, maybe this is all a blessing in disguise. You'll find yourself with a little extra time...and maybe when a full time job presents itself you will find yourself with an extra part time thing making humidors. I've learned to see the positive in things. I think you'll be better and stronger once things turn back around.

It's a bitter pill to swallow, no lie there... you will be back at the old grindstone in no time. Just enjoy your time off and make it worth something.

Catch up on an old hobby to take your mind off of things.

Alright, sorry for being a baby earlier today. It was just the whole filing for unemployment that got to me. I was really fine at the end of last week, last weekend and today up until that point, then it just got to me, kind of hard.

I had a great night with Linda, we talked a lot and I'm back on the right track now. I'll do as recommended by so many here, take some time, enjoy that time, search like hell and prepare for what comes my way. I'll get through, I'll be fine, just needed to get pissy for a bit I guess.

Thank you gentlemen!

Like everybody else has said, there's no shame in collecting from what you've been paying into all these years. That goes for the unemployment benefits, as well as the good deeds you've done for others. I'm sure you'll have a new job in no time, and this brief setback will turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

Don't be sorry for telling us how you feel, man. I think what you were feeling is understandable.

I was let go in an RIF during the dot-com burst. I was out of work 2 months. I then landed the job I currently have, which has been the best experience of my life. Since then, I've completed two technical certifications and I"m finishing my degree... ALL ON THE COMPANY'S DIME. My previous employer wouldn't have done that. I work in a better atmosphere, with better benefits, and more opportunity than before. I thought I had it made before, and then felt the same as you during my time unemployed.

I kept in touch with a lot of guys let go in that same RIF. ALL OF THEM were better off than before within a few months.

So, take Tedski's advice, and keep your mind on business, but also relax and take the opportunity to enjoy some rare freedom, too.
