The whole situation is just sad. In one of the articles, the family is quoted as asking why the officer didn't use a taser/nightstick/etc. Well, I bet the officer wishes that was an option as well, but he had just been hit with a bat and was trying to avoid being hit again! The officer is described as being friendly and popular with the students there, so I suspect that being forced to shoot a 17-year-old will take quite a toll on him.I feel for the family of the Kid, buthe would, most likey have caused years of pain to his family as they went to all his court cases and visited him in jail. It's not like he was on the honor roll.
You dont shoot to kill; you shoot to defend your life. If the assailant dies in the process, it is a consequence of his own actions.
Don't know what he was carrying, but IF it had a magazine disconnect on it, it would not have fired without the magazine inserted.should have still had one in the chamber,,, other reports said the kid came out of no where,,, didn't even see it coming! ouch!!
Typically LE weapons dont have a mag disconnect on them for the simple reason that if you were doing a tactical reload you may need to fire that chambered round while the mag is out. I would be surprised if that were the case.Don't know what he was carrying, but IF it had a magazine disconnect on it, it would not have fired without the magazine inserted.

Law Enforcement (LE) weapons. I think thats what youre question is....??
Rick, normally you would be correct, but I believe Gray Davis forced LE in CA to have the disconnect feature when he was still governor. Jeff, please correct me if I am wrong. . .:dunno: This would have been ~2002 - 2003?Law Enforcement (LE) weapons. I think thats what youre question is.
