If every American was able to participate in the Tueller Drill, which to the best of my knowledge is still used for instruction at most police academies, this question would never come up again. . .:angryteet

Law Enforcement (LE) weapons. I think that’s what you’re question is.
haha. no. that's not what i meant. our guns have magazine releases. i carry a glock, and it's a standard issue. in fact, it's against p&p to modify any issued firearm, with the exception of sights and grips.

if i were to take my magazine out, it would still fire the one in the chamber.

I’m not sure if we are on the same page as to what we are discussing.

Klusterbuck originally posted “Don't know what he was carrying, but IF it had a magazine disconnect on it, it would not have fired without the magazine inserted.”

The magazine disconnect will not allow the pistol to be fired while the mag is out. For example, when S&W came out with their new M&P pistol, the version for the civilian market had what looks like a little spring steel wire lever near the top of the mag well which is depressed when the mag was fully seated allowing the weapon to be fired. This was omitted on the LE version of the same gun. I believe that it is no longer installed on the newer M&P’s for the civilian market either.

I thought you were asking what LE is an abbreviation for. Of course the firearms have magazine releases (different function) but as you pointed out the weapon will still operate without the mag installed allowing you to fire the round in the chamber if needed. This is the point I was trying to make.

Not sure about any foolish law Gray Davis may have endorsed out of pure ignorance but if your using a standard issue Glock then I’m sure that law is not in effect.

It was also used in my NRA instructor training, and I in turn use it in my carry permit class. As an instruction tool I feel that it's invaluable. People often believe that carrying a firearm is akin to magical armor, and the drill can bring home a slew of valuable points.

As far as the magazine "falling out", there are multiple possibilities, including the officer releasing it by accident. I'm not implying this is the case, I don't know any better then anyone else here. In stress, people do all sorts of things, that seem silly in hindsight. Luckily he had backup.
