Wow. Had the same regime 18 years ago along with a pack a day habit and was literally killing me. Drop the soda ASAP. Its the worse thing you could be doing to yourself. Start replacing with caffeine pills or 6 hour energy shot and drink a lots of water......and exercise. Then start weaning yourself off the caffeine or at least to a reasonable level. Find some time to have a cigar during the day for some down time even if it's a 30min break. Do the exercise at night. Get at least 6 hours of sleep. Delegate to others in the organization so you won't be killing yourself. You’ll be surprised how well you'll start
feeling.

I hear you Scott. I used to go crazy on the coffee till noon and then Coke until 5 and then another couple at/after dinner. I now take a limited amount of coffee and then it's all water after the coffee is gone. I'll still have a coffee in the afternoon every once and a while but I feel a hell of a lot better taking all of the Coke out of the equation. It's tough to cut it out, but it's definitely worth it.

Just think of all the $$ for sticks I would have if I broke these.
I have quit cold turkey about 3 times now and you know I drink Dew as much as you do. I usually do it for summer time then we go on vacation and I drink the mix drinks and start back with the soda pop. So It can be done, I usually do the first week wit hone caffeine drink before noon to prevent the inevitable headache. Hope that helps you.

And I am currently dumping my stock in pepsi, you know it will go down when they lose their profits after losing you as a customer.

Yep, gotta dump the dew. A buddy of mine I deployed with used to live on the stuff, and ended up a diabetic and got sent home early. Water, water, water, and more water.

Take it slow. guessing you are in the top 1-2 percentile of high caffeine users/abusers. Not only that the "hand to mouth" habit is akin that if a 2 pack a day smoker. So a chemical dependency, and well as a physical habit. You can ween your self from the crack slowly, but you have to have something to drink (water) on hands at all times. Maybe put a large bottle of water in between each bottle of MD.

I just thought of something. You must piss, like 30 times a day.:wtf:

I'm new here and this is one of my first posts. Forgive me if I am stepping out of line. I have an addictive personality. If it makes me feel good I want more. I too was addicted to caffeine and needed to back away. I treated it as any other "drug" addiction. Ween yourself off the caffeine. Withdraw from caffeine can cause strong headaches and irritability. If you slowly take away your consumption of the "drug" the withdrawal will be lessened.
Some people with addictive personalities "replace" one addiction for another. If this is the case with you, be sure to replace it with something that is healthy for you. There are many good suggestions posted. I replaced caffeine with flavored water. It wasn't as satisfying as caffeine but it worked. I am also a man of faith and prayer helped me immensely. I pray that you can overcome this problem. Be Blessed...

Looks like people are split on phase out vs. cold turkey. I guess part of it is knowing what works for YOU.

If tapering off is your thing, try skipping some of the morning coffee. You just (hopefully) slept. You don't need it yet. Save it for when you really start to miss it later in the day.

If cold turkey is more your style just be careful to schedule carefully. The next couple days may be an ugly affair. Make sure you have time to ride it out and get yourself back in action.

Whichever way you go, just do it. Don't let habit be a justification for anything. You want change, make changes. You can do this.

When you think you need a jolt of caffine do some kind of aerobic activity. Stand up to stretch, talk a quick walk, etc. Getting the oxygen and blood flowing will help wake you up as well as blow off some stress.

As someone who is easily addicted to anything and a recovering alcoholic I can only suggest from experience. The hardest thisng I ever quit was the cigs. When I quit drinking I lived on cigs and coffee. I think it is a one at a time thing. First dump the sugar. The caffeine and suger mix is a killer. Then the cigs. Then the coffee. I went from eight cups a day to a managable two. I also run in the morning or night to replace the caff buzz. Works. Killer headaches for the first month but it works. Good luck bro

We pretty much cut out all of our carbonated beverages, by simply focusing on water. It was during a project that had us working outdoors in 100+ temps, and neither of us wanted to be dehydrated. Found some good water bottles (highly love and recommend these guys) and didn't focus on cutting anything, but rather adding the water. Those bottles have a counter so you can see when you get to your daily needed amount. The two of us made it a personal challenge to drink over 80 ounces of water each day, and 'race' each other to that amount. By doing that we went from killing a 12 pack in a few days, to a single can a day-if that.

Water, exercise, and cold turkey if you can cut it. At least 86 El Diablo aka soda. The others you can work on. I've been back to exercising the last month from a 4 month lazy period. Notice how happy I was at dinner the other night. I've seen a improvement in me in the last month already.

I'd suggest kicking caffeine cold turkey. You'll have a headache for a few days probably, and be generally unpleasant to be around, but then you'll feel better.

Later, you can go back to having some caffeine, but limit it.

Try this wake up in the morning and drink 1 liter of water. I'm serious this works best if the water is at room temperature and most convenient to fill a bottle the night before and have it by your bedside in the mornings. Before you get outta bed pop open the bottle and start gulping it down.. it will take a few minutes you'll feel bloated like nobody's business and piss more than you ever have. Next you can have your cup of coffee (you probably won't be able to have 4 since you'll feel pretty full).

As for the Mt. Dew that shit is nasty and you're better off without it I drink water instead of coke, sprite, 7up, dew whatever it keeps me hydrated and regular. I would take a Dew with lunch if I really can't live without it I've seen people trying to go without that stuff and its almost as bad as crack. Just have a lot of water around the more you drink the less you'll feel like putting other stuff in your system.

Scott...Have you tried the 5 hour energy drink? It seems to do the trick and even my wifes boss (Doctor) drinks it. If you need something to drink in-between try caffiene free soda. As far as the stress..well that's a tough one. I had a very stressfull time in my life where it caused some health issues. Finely the Doc gave me Xanax (.025) and it really helped. I'm not saying or tempting you to try it but it is a suggestion when all else fails. I really feel you probibly need to slow down a bit but it sounds like thats not going to happen anytime soon. Hope you find a way to deal soon brother!

first, caffeine is not the problem.
its the safest most widely abused drug in human history.

The sugar is the junk.

So, stick with the coffee. lose the dew.

Save your $$ and buy caffeine tabs bulk.

a1 supplements has 1000/200mg tabs $40 shipped
or cooler/ slightly crazy, 8oz for $35
pure caffeine powder chemical formula: C8H10N4O2 from united nuclear.

an outright switch from dew to water is best
or
mix yourself some sugarless lemon lime drink.

I would NOT go cold turkey bro. caffeine withdrawl is a 2x4 upside the head!

Good luck with this Scott. Years ago I had to quit coffee, pop and cigs with school all day and 3rd shift work I got to the point where I was shaking from all the caffeine in my system. If you can quit it all cold turkey go for it. If not like Chuck said go with one at a time. Maybe try either diet dew or a caffeine free drink if you find one you like.

Again good luck!

My very humble two cents: caffeine or any "energy" product is a bad attempt at replacing the things that should get you energy naturally - eating right, exercise, and sleep. I would seriously analyze those things in your life and adjust where you think necessary. Good luck with your efforts Scott!
