I'm not looking for sympathy here I just need to share and get your opinion,

So A friend and I were coming home to his house after a concert tonight. When we got to his house where my car was. We got out and I walked to his door to grab "The Departed" and said goodnight. I then walk to the end of his driveway where my car is running because of the auto start I have installed. As I came around the rear to the driver’s side door I saw a man walking towards me. I unlocked the car via remote and this man started to yell "Shut the fuck up! Shut the fuck up! As he raises a gun to my face. For some reason (instinct) I jumped into my car and fumbled around to throw it into drive has he begins to bang on my glass and yelling. I got it into drive and floored it down the street peeling out most of the way to the stop sign. After I got down a few streets I called my bud to tell him and he called 911. 911 then called me and asked me to meet a cop at a near by gas station. After he gets all my info and files a report he tells me to expect a call in the next day or so and to call if anything strange happens.

Did I do the right thing in jumping in and speeding off? There was way more than plenty of time for him to shoot right through the glass at me. I have been a lil shaken and literally shaky since then but I think the rush has gone. Anyway I'm glad I'm okay and I have some things to think about.

No harm no foul. Depends on situation. You did the right thing by calling 911 to let them know. I would be inclined to hand over money, watch etc. as I have very little cash and prey nothing happens to me. My wife, child, dogs, home etc. would lose me should something go wrong. With the criminal mind, one can never tell. Glad your ok brother. Be safe and always keep one eye open and an ear to the ground.

You came out with out injury, I would say that you made the correct decision for this particular episode.

Different situations demand different reactions. If threatened with girlfriend or family right next to me, I would consider giving up what little bit I am carrying with me. By myself, not sure what reaction would be best.

Giving up your valuables might make the perp go away, but then again, he might decide that you look like the guy that is sleeping with his wife and after all those shots of tequila at the bar, maybe shooting you sounds like a pretty good idea.

wow glad you are ok! That is a hard thing to say whether you did the right thing or not. I guess it all depends on the hole situation.

In my opinion you did exactly the right thing. In that situation, your car was your best weapon...too bad you couldn't have run the sob down.

As far as thinking, "Well, he had plenty of time to shoot through the window", if he was going to shoot you through the window, then he was also going to shoot you after you gave up your cash to him. If he's a robber, then you were right to try and get away...if he's a killer, then you're also right to try and get away.

The only thing you could have done different is just to have been aware or scoped out the area to have possibly seen him lurking around before walking to your car. But, I have no idea what the area is like, or if he was hidden, etc.

If you had not been alone (wife, gf, etc.), then the scenario is different...but you did well! Glad you're okay.

I don't know if you did the right thing or not, but sure glad that it turned out ok. I don't know what I'd do in that situation - hopefully I never have to find out.

Man that's a scary situation. Good thing you had autostart or that would be more time for the guy to do something. Glad to hear you made it out okay.

I think that if you walked away alive and unhurt then you did the right thing. I'm not sure how that situation could have worked out any better...had you given him valuables and he took off...well you'd still be ok today but without some of your stuff. I think it turned out pretty great, luck is on your side.

However, with that said, I'm not sure if I'd try that twice! Glad to hear you're ok though man.

That's F'ed up right there. While everyone says that money and personal belongings aren't worth the potential consequences of not cooperating with a lowlife like that guy, It seems that neglecting to make an attempt to remove yourself from the situation could be hazardous to your health as well.

Man, that would have left me shaking. It makes me uncomfortable just thinking about it. Sorry that happened bro.

Hard to say....odds are he had no intentions of bodily harm but just was using the weapon as persuasion, however you never know and that is why most often you can't bet on that.

Definitely a good call on letting the Police know.

Glad you are OK and let us know if you need anything....no sympathy here, just good support

Buddy, no one but you can say if it's the right thing to do or not. You are safe today, and alive - so it sure as hell looks like the right thing. These types of situations are only decided right then and there. Glad you are safe.

The right thing? I see no other course of action unless you roll down the window and let him shoot you. You did the right thing in all areas, leaving the scene calling your buddy who called 911 and then meeting the cops. All the right moves.

I am sure there are plenty of people who would have froze and not been able to get themselves out of the situation. Hats off to you and rest assured you did right.

Sorry to hear this... Right thing? my opinion, my experiences Yes... Advice opinion? No

I had this happen to me a year ago this past Sunday.. I had the gun placed in my mouth though, so a little different, but in any case I did not give him anything, the cop/detective/everybody said that I was crazy for not giving him what he wanted, but they also said that I was alive and talking so they cannot question my experience

Seriously, it sucks, let us know if we can do anything

Yes, the most important thing is that you are physically OK . You might consider talking about this with someone face-to-face so it doesn't fester. Maybe the local police can recommend a victims group.
