OK, so I came to the conclusion that all FM Transmitters are pure junk! With that in mind, I went to the local audio shop and got an new stereo for the truck. Nothing special, Clarion single disc deck, with USB port to hook up the iPod direct. The sound is amazing as it has a larger built in amp, I can control the iPod right from the stereo so I can just leave the iPod itself right in the glove box, it charges it and 15 minutes after I shut the truck off the stereo shuts off the iPod too. I love it!

Too bad the Neo wasn't compatible with your old stereo. It sound like the Clarion does the same thing as the Neo connector... Do you get album and song info on the Clarion stereo?

I was really hoping you were going to find some great alternative! Wife wants this in her Volvo and replacing the stereo means a new Volvo.

LOL, I got by a little cheaper! However, the option I originally wanted may work in your vehicle, it just wasn't compatible with the Ford 6 disc in dash changer, which is what I had.

DoubleRobusto, do you have links to any of the products you are referring to. I didn't see any above but I have been known to miss things before. I am curious about both the Neo and Griffin you were writing about

I don't much like my FM transmitter either. In my old car I use the old school tape adapter--works better than anything else except a direct digital connection, and cost $5.

Sometimes older is better :)

Neo Car Audio link

Griffin AUX TuneFlex
http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/tuneflex-aux-with-smartclick

Both are great products, which can charge your iPod and play through your car stereo without cassette adapter or FM transmitter. The Griffin has a docking pad, which makes reading the iPod easy to read while driving. The updated version allows sterring wheel controls, which mine did not have...

The Neo can be controlled via steering wheel (if available) and easy to install. I store the ipod in the glove box. The Neo also doesn't interfere with factory multi disc changer or GPS systems.

The Neo says it will not work with 3G iPhones, but it works fine. You just need to acknowledge the pop up window when connected and not select airplane mode.

IMHO, they are the best products for iPods.

I would definitely suck it up and buy the hardwired connecter.
I have one from Peripheral Audio and it's it's very useful to control from your stereo rather than fumbling with the ipod.

Also, you should be able to find a car-specific installation pdf so you can install it yourself.
