different smokes for different folks, but I'm with you on these. I only smoked a petit robusto, but I just don't get all the fuss over this CT. broadleaf wrapper.
I hear what you're saying and agreed with you up until 6 months ago or so. That's when I started to love the La Riqueza and OR El Triunfandor. Here is what I've found in regards to Pepin's CT Broadleaf:
1) I have to smoke them for my first cigar of the day (and before evening in my case). This is because they are just too light on the palate for me to get much flavor otherwise. But on a clean palate, they're fantastic.
2) More age = better. Not sure why, but for me the La Riqueza and El Triunfador just have hardly any flavor until they have some decent rest--close to a year. The OR La Riquezas I have left are just fantastic now (especially the #1). Perhaps it's just that Pete doesn't age his sticks long before they're released.
Having said this, I'm smoking my first Jaime Garcia Reserva (a petite robo) as I type this. I'm only 1/2 an inch in, but I'm already getting a lot of flavor, and am enjoying it immensely. This stick could end up being an exception to my #2 above (or perhaps Jaime just aged these longer before releasing them).
Again, only 1/2 an inch in, but I'm getting spice, chocolate, and cofee that reminds me a lot of a Liga Privada #9 (a little less coffee than the LP#9)... and you guys know I love those things
Very nice opening.
Edit: Half-way through--this is a great stick. Lost some of the sweetness I liked, but still very good.
Edit 2: Final thoughts--loved it! The spice stayed until the end, and I enjoyed the cigar a lot. It did start to get bitter in the final third, but I slowed down a bit and it was fine then.
Jaime inherited his father's gift, make no mistake. If the My Father didn't prove it, this cigar certainly does. I'll be on the lookout for more of these Petite Robustos!
