Full Disclosure: Before joining Drew Estate in 2005, I worked for JR Cigar and Lew Rothman for four plus years.

IMO, JR Cigar is a great online company and their customer service is excellent - they have great prices, low shipping and a generous return policy.

When it comes to cigar condition, they have a state of the art storage facility - I have no clue how many cigars are in it these days, but when I left the company they were storing in excess of 100 million cigars. Trust me, keeping them in optimum condition is critical to them given their standing investment.

As to the cigars themselves, the name brands are identical. The house brands vary widely in quality but they do so relative to cost. I still think JR Ultimates & El Rey del Mundos are some of the best tasting handmades on the market. When it comes to their less expensive knock-offs and value brands, their worth can only be judged by you yourself - but there are some real gems in there to be found and some dog rockets too, so you gotta do some sampling to find what suits you. Closeouts of name brands are always a good deal if you happen to like the brand.

So in short, I would not hesitate doing business as a consumer with JR.

This may sound silly, but it's a serious question - how do you store that many cigars and not get tobacco beetle infestations?

Not silly - you constantly monitor the product utilizing pheromone traps - they are like a fly paper that is treat specifically with love juice that attract tobacco beetles - you then inspect the traps daily - if you find beetles in the trap, then you gotta start hunting - luckily you have these traps all over the place so you already have a rather localized area to do your search.

Once you find the problem you quarantine the product, then freeze or fumigate to destroy - you inspect all the cigars, what is intact is returned to inventory what isn't is destroyed.

Often we just skip the fumigate and just destroy - beetles are not to be messed with.

Plus fumigating in the states is harder as the warehouses are not set up for it, whereas in a cigar factory - cigar aging rooms are designed to be 100% isolated off and fumigated - all factories to my knowledge fumigate monthly as a preventative measure.

Don't worry about the chems - they are the same used in the grain and cereal industry and well I smoke it, so I am croaking first if I am wrong. ;>
