hi! the cigars like the nub, etc are the in thing because you get the larger gauge, but it won't take you as long if the length was longer. i like the larger gauges myself and maduros at that..yum:)
For me it's not even about the time to smoke them. It's more a matter of not being able to fit them comfortably in my mouth.

I go back and forth. I typically stick with the smaller RG stuff myself, especially lancero, but I enjoy a 60 behemoth every once in a while. The new Uzi by Drew/JdN was fabulous for a big ring gauge and I always enjoy the LFD DL-700 maduro. And I definitely don't think the big RG fad is dying out, if anything it is still gaining steam. A lot of manufacturers who you would never think would do a big RG are jumping in, Padron being the one that comes to mind. And with the push from Drew, Studio Tobac, and others, I think we will see it for years to come.

I do really enjoy smokes that are small and thick... NUbs, JdNAntano Gran Consul, that kind of stuff

Not being a fan of large gauges, I have to say that the Gran Consul I had the other day made me reconsider. The fact that it is a beli helps out.

Anything over 56rg feels unrighteous:wink: Seriously, there are some good large rg cigars but I really find the smaller rg to be the best.

Definitely depends on the blend but I generally agree wit the higher wrapper/filler ratio = Corona, Robusto, Toro, Lancero However there are exceptions, Liga Privada Flying Pig is a fav and thats a 60 ring

Most of my favorite cigars are smaller ring cigars, but due to the large rg fad i've been rolling along with it. I generally dont really like ring gauges bigger than 50 since it will start irritating my jaw, which has been broken before.

I think that both small and large ring gauges should be in the humidor. Will never give up my cohiba lanceros however, the behike 54 is the bomb.

For most circumstances 52 is the largest ring gauge that I think makes sense... after that the wrapper/filler ratio is out of whack and you just look plain stupid. 42-46 is the sweet spot for me.

I'm a huge fan of 40-46 and didn't care for bigger cigars until I tried the MUWAT. Everyone seems to be coming out with 6x60 and 6x66. I heard Jesus is making a 7x77!

Overall, I'm becoming a smaller-ring guy more and more. It's not a comfort issue (I've got a big mouth I guess, lol). There is just more character and sophistication often times. In fact, to me anything over a 48-ring is "thick" now.

The exception to this is when you're talking about well-aged tobacco (either pre-roll like the Padron 46 or simply a well-aged cigar). In that case, thicker can actually be better.

JD was saying in that interview on Stogie Review that there aren't that many lancero smokers out there. Well, I'm one of the few I guess :)

That said, I'm fine smoking thinker rings as long as they are on the shorter side. Even 5" is really long (I mean in terms of smoking time) when you're talking about a 60-ring. But shorter fatties are fine by me as long as the flavor is there. I love the T110, M80, anything in a petite robusto, etc. I do want to try the shortest MUWAT.

There are a couple things I DO like about large ring guages. The smoke is usually very cool on the palate, and the cigar is often smoother. But those things run secondary to flavor for me, so the flavor has to be there in any size!
