Uncle Virgil just made the shine and then ummm exported it to the dry countys in Tennessee. Had an awesome car with a false trunk to hold the jugs. Reminded me of the Dukes of Hazzard. The blindness is often caused by having a high concentration of methanol alcohol. Properly handled and distilled beverage should have very low amounts of methanol. I read a little about distilling and there's three parts to distillation collection. The head, the heart and the tail. You toss the head and tail and keep the heart. You can save the head and tail to distill again at a later date. That's where education and experience comes in, knowing when to start and stop collecting for aging/bottling.
