Caught in the Crossfire
We just found out that my wifes father has terminal lung cancer and theyre giving him maybe 6 months to a year. My wife is beside herself as she is very close to her parents. They started him on chemo and were waiting for the results from a full body scan and a cat scan of the head. He has a large an inoperable tumor in his right lung, its leaking fluid into his chest cavity which can cause even more spreading and has to be drained daily. The problem they said is that with this kind of cancer it usually spreads to the brain so it may be even worse than we know now and his time shorter. The crazy thing is a month ago he was working on their retirement home he just built and was in the process of finishing off the basement. He caught a cold that turned into pneumonia but after that things still werent right as he had trouble breathing so they did more tests. In one month he went from swinging a hammer to a death sentence. They have him on oxygen and he goes through about a tank an hour which I understand is quiet a lot.
They live in PA just north of exit 212 on Rt. 80. Were driving up in April during the kids spring break to see him, and then we have to drive to central Jersey to see my father because he is having spinal surgery to fix a vertebrae and relieve pressure on some nerves. Hes having trouble walking and they hope this will help. The problem is that he has heart problems and has a pacemaker / defibrillator in his chest which has to be disconnected during the surgery. His cardiologist doesnt like that and theyre trying to figure the best way to work around this because it is risky. Its got me worried. Im hoping they dont schedule him until after we get up there or we might have to go early.
I would appreciate it if you kept them in your thoughts and prayers.
My wife is not sleeping, Im not sleeping well. Add that to a bunch of other crap going on right now and it just tends to wear you out.
I didnt mean to ramble on about dismal things, just wanted to let you guys know what was going on.
