Check Rock River Arms ... some very nice AR's come out of this company. Also, make up your mind about a scope or iron sights or carry handle - a lot of combinations. A flat top can fitted with a scope that will allow you to look under it and use the iron sights. You can also fit it with flip-up sights.
If you're looking to use it to put holes in paper, etc you have a wide selection. If you're looking to use it to "protect" get a brand name and don't go cheap.

That gun 6 or 7 months ago was about half of that. ar15's have doubled in price.

Yep, they've doubled in price all right.

I was looking at Stag arms model 1 or 2 or model 6. I was also looking at DPMS, as they are in my price range and form what i've read, they are as good as any of the countless other brands.

I stayed away from Bushmaster and COlt due to paying for the name. Bushamster's start at 1500 or so.

I ended up getting a DPMS. Not sure of the model number yet. havne't had time to really check it out. I just know that finding one in stock naywhere is getting tough. I got mine at a gun show and they were selling like hot cakes eight in front of my eyes.

Good to hear that you got and AR. I'm kicking myself for not purchasing one before the Presidentual election. I figured they would go up in price in a few months. But was suprised to see that they have sold out this quickly and there is a long waiting list now.
