The wife and I went out with her sister and brother in law for dinner last night. They took my wife out for her bday since it is today. For some reason we ended up staying a little later because we were talking about bathroom habits (don't ask that is for a different thread).

We final left and were almost home when we come around the corner on the highway and it looks like a car bounced off the guard rail. At this point they cannot go forward let alone straight. So I took it upon myself to call the police. There were no State Troopers close by, then all of a sudden the driver stops in the highway then takes a sharp right onto an exit going over the snow and just barely missing the exit sign. The State Police put me into the local town police. I am speaking with them and letting them know where we are as they are trying to find us. As we cross back over the highway the driver comes to a stop and starts to turn as if they were going to go west onto the east bound exit. At that point a fear set over me. However, they went a little further and took a right turn. As we come up the the next intersection the first officer pulls up head on at us. They watch the driver almost get back on the highway, swerve to miss the on ramp and go into on coming traffic into residential neighborhood. The officer finally light the car up and they pull over right away. The dispatcher asked us to stay back a distance and wait for the officer to speak with us.

As they have the female driver step out she falls over. One officer is talking to us and as the other officer is trying to get her to the police car she is falling over. in 10 feet she fell twice.

The officer we were talking to said she should not have been driving at all and that was a great thing we did.

At the time when I went to call the police I'm like dam, I'm going to get this person arrest, but then I thought of all the alcohol related deaths lately. I remember it was school break this week and people were coming home form vacation and that what I did might have just saved the drivers life or an innocent life.

You definitely did the right thing. You might have saved a few lives, maybe someone you know.
Some people just don't get it. Get a ride home, call a cab.
Nice heads up bro.

Nice going! I'm sure the life you saved was not the idiot drunk driver - but the innocent people who she probably would have hit on the way home.

Oh and Happy Birthday to your wife. Ironically, my son also has his Birthday today ... his 21st ... and he has plans to go out exploring the mixed drink scene tonight. He won't be driving though.

That was a very good thing you did. You possibly saved some innocent lives, and maybe getting arrested like she did will force that person to look at herself in the mirror and get some help.

An my wife's birthday is today also! I gave her a suprise party yesterday, it was great, I actually fooled her for a change!!!

Well done Derek! As a truck driver I see this all the time, unfortunately I can't always grab my cell and call the police. I have on several occasions, and possibly saved several lives myself.

You did a good thing. Some people really don't see how stupid drunk driving is:nono:. As a recovering alcoholic, I hear the horror stories in the rooms all the time. It would only take time before that person injured or killed herself and/or someone else. She may be ticked that she has to spend some money or spend some time in jail, but it's a helluva lot better than losing your life or taking a life and spending life in jail.

Thanks guys!! and the wife said thanks for the bday wishes.

When she also almost side swiped two cars on the highway that is when I new there was a serious concern. She was driving like those people you see on the cops programs on truTv.

In my younger days I drove impaired, but never that bad. Now a days when we go out we always have a designated driver. I think the older I get the wiser I get.
