David...ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, David...put the whole box in a baggie with a hydrometer to check humidity.
I would have expected him to say that. I've had a guy tell me that at a B&M when I went into his humidor and pointed it out to him. In fact he said, "The white stuff is plume, if it were green then it would be mold." I knew that he knew what it was, but was too embarassed that his cigars had mold to admit it. The mold was on his LG's and Tatuaje's which was a damn shame.just got a message back from the vendor and he claims he sees plume, not mold. of course he says hes not sitting in front of the box either.
Jay, while I understand your sentiment, I think you would be surprised at how MANY of the common vendors do this. I know of at least two otherwise stand-up, every-day vendors that have used the old "your mold is plume" line. Not defending them in any way whatsoever, but if you gave up on every vendor that did it, you'd be narrowing down your list pretty darn quickly methinks.OK, just caught up on the thread and I have 2 things.
Matt, if your vendor, especially a vendor of those cigars, is not willing to be honest about mold, or does not really know what plume is, I would not do business with them. There are some great vendors out there and for someone to flat out deny it from those pictures tells me something. I;m not you, but if I were, I would initially have been happy with an apology, but now would be seeking some type of discount on the next order. That's ridiculous from a vendor that should know better.
Gentlemen, just my 50 cents worth (at my age I gotta get more than .02), most vendors will comment on plume vs mold, because most of us aren't sure what we're looking at (I hold this thread and all the others on this subject, up as evidence ). Ouite frankly in my case I've experienced a vast amount more plume than mold.
The easy fix is to use email, telephone, Western Union or smoke signals to communicate to the vendor your desires in advance. Have him inspect the purchase for you before shipping. As far as driving up the price for everyone else by returning something, we are already paying it. If the problem warrants it (major problem) I return the sticks. Slightly cracked feet, a little mold, whatever, I correct it and smoke em up. The last thing is develop a relationship with a couple of vendors and use then use em.
Yeah you might pay a couple of bucks more over a a discount vendors monthly specials price (who is having the more recent mold outbreaks by the way), however once that relationship has been developed you'd be suprised at what a vendor will do to keep you happy. Just keep the lines of communication open. He values relationships as well.
more than .50 cents ken but worth every penny of it!!!!!! :thumbsup:Well put. Now that is VAST knowledge.:applause:
