Wouldn't you like to know?
I trust unequivocally without a doubt the provenance of my one and only that I've been sitting on since November-ish. Looking forward to lighting this on my birthday.

From the sounds of it I will not be disappointed :)
I can buy almost anything by the bundle in Havana but I still by sealed boxes just to make sure my sources are honest. That said if it came boxed and banded you should be pretty safe. Or if it came from Art I am guessing safe as well

HMM. When exactly is that B-day?:stretchgr
planning on a 1966 for my B-day.
1966's are for my eldest daughter's b-day...those are absolutely amazing imo Mike

How far away is that? I have some special sticks I'm also saving for the special day.
It's exactly 1 Monte GR away :)
I thought we had the same birthday when's yours again?

For me they are already way ahead of the cohiba GR's and at least a decade ahead of the 1966's.
Wow, high praise right there! I am interested in trying one if it falls in my lap but I much prefer Cohiba over Monte normally and don't want to spring for a box of these. Very curious though...

Not really that high of praise. For some reason still not a huge fan of the CGR. I think that the 1966s will be great but they really need some time. At the moment I don't really even think they are smokeable

I have really enjoyed the 1966's that I have smoked young thus far and agree that they will be stellar with more time...

As for the Monte GR...I know taste is subjective and to each their own...either way I'm looking forward to the experience.

I agree that the M GR should be lightyears ahead of the 1966 presently. The 66 are either going to get stronger and stellar, or they will fall off an already short cliff and become the most overblown EL. The CGR is good though...are you talking in terms of cigar's texture and robustness or pure pedigree. This could get ugly.

I am currently trying my hardest not to open those gr's...from what i have heard they were to mimic the montes of old, and that's a tall order. Would love some feedback

I am very biased in that there are very few few cohiba's that work for me. So far it has really only been a corona espesciales given to me by the head of el laguito wow me and a few random ones that were pretty good. I still have a few of the OR reserva's left but have gifted most away as didnt do much for me. So please don't take my dislike of the CGR'S or 1966 as anything special I am just not a cohiba fan.

Thanks for getting back, the CGR is now about ready to smoke. Hmmm, what do you think of the cohiba exquisitos or the DC EL? I'm not judging with this question, just trying to frame your palate.

And/or you could tell me what it is about cohiba that doesnt do it for you. And what is it with the M GR that does it for you.

You sure you meant to quote Stogie here, and not Aaron (gibbleguts) Marc?

And I've been meaning to say this to you for quite some time now, but just haven't. I'm working on the whole if you don't have anything nice, don't say it....but I can't help it (which is a clear fail with what's gonna follow).

I just think ya might wanna tone down the wanna be baller-tude a bit. You're at a 10....and we're gonna need ya at about a 2.

I mean "frame your palate".....really? :stickbeat

The great things about cigars is that everyone's palate is different as I am on the opposite end of the spectrum. I think that the cohiba 1966s are fantastic right now and that the Monte GRs need time. I have a few of each of them and prefer the robust taste of a 1966. I think that they will age beautifully. Thank goodness I stocked up in November on both of them. Locked a bunch up for long term storage.:stretchgr

The CGRs are smoking nice. Prefer the 03 cohiba DCs though as they are wonderfully complex. The ED 54s are great right out of the gate. Prefer those right now vs. the monte GRs.

Meh, I work so that I have money to spend on things I enjoy. House, car, cigar, alcohol, etc. And once in a while, I like going out to a fancy restaurant, spend a little extra on wine, a finer cut of meat, etc. So the thought of spending an extra bit of coin on a fancy cigar for a special occassion seems palatable to me. I might treat myself and pick one up. As long as I can convince b2 to do it too...
/agree
Every now and then its nice to treat yourself to a little something special. Have a little self esteem and believe you deserve it, and enjoy it.

I am surprised to hear that anything comes in bundles from Havana. Is this a recent thing, and can you show a pic of a bundle?
Do the bundles come directly from the factory,or are they available at dealers?
Thanks for the information..........

Anything that comes in bundles are not through normal sources. As much as I had grown to believe over the years that the only way to get legit cigars in Cuba was to buy at an authorized retailer once you get to know people there are other ways of doing it. That said Cuba is still a very poor country and you had better know what you are looking at or you may get fakes.
