Please elaborate. Inquiring minds want to know! :tiphat:
Diplos are very sweet and have a caramel/pecan/butter flavor about them...now Montes can get this sweet (different sweet, like a sugar water sweet) but it takes 7+ years. Montes have a distinctive hay/faint cocoa/faint floralness all their own..just 2 very different cigars. I hear folks saying they taste the same but I don't find that at all.

I have one Dip 2 left as part of a sampler I recently bought. If it is anywhere near as bad as the other singles I have tried, I am striking it off my list for good. My buddy recently smoked a Dip 2 that he continued to praise the whole way down. Prior to that Dip 2, he had several duds just like I did. His comments gave me hope for the Dip 2, but that smoke continues to fail me.

As for the Monte 2... IMO it is the most overhyped CC out there. I wouldn't say they are bad. The ones I have had (from multiple boxes with varying amounts of age) were not unenjoyable by any stretch of the imagination. They just do not live up to the hype. I have 2 boxes left that I'm hoping will benefit with more age and I can "see the light" with this cigar.

I don't have nearly as much experience with these two cigars as many others here do, so take my advice for what it's worth. To tell you the truth, I haven't been impressed with either of these piramides. Neither tastes like the rest of their respective marcas to me. Maybe this is what others like about them. If I had to choose between these two, I'd go for the Monte 2. However, I'll take my Dip 4s and Monte 3s all day long over the Monte/Dip 2.

They should create a lancero...And call it a Skinny Dip

:)
 That would be hilarious!

Seriously though, with all but the Dip 2 being discontinued, what are the chances of a new Diplomaticos vitola?

Monte#2 hands down.............Dips...smoked like a cheaper cigar..like a wannabe Monte #2...smoked both, especially since everyone was raving about Dips....nothing special in my book.

/Agree. My sentiments exactly on all points.

I'll post my full review in the Cuban review section in a bit when my pic finishes uploading, but my final two paragraph sum it up.

The taste, while similar to a Monte 2, is not as full. The flavour profile seems more like a Guantanamera brand cigar (Cheap), minus the horrid construction, and draw issues. Overall I can't say anything bad about it.

I'll make this comparison. It's like drinking Coke, or Pepsi, or any other name brand product, and then going out and buying the no name brand. Even though their marketing it as cola, it just doesn't taste like the real thing. If these were significantly cheaper, like a no name, I would consider it an alternative, but I'm pretty sure this was only a couple bucks cheaper then a Monte 2.

The older dip #2's will put monte #2's to shame. The more current vintage if I were forced to choose one I'd go with the monte.

^^ 104 votes so far... a THIRD of all votes for Monte 2 as the clear winner...... Diplo 2 a distant 4th Place with less than a fourth of the votes for Monte 2.

This particular thread seems to prefer the Diplo...... but I'm not sure that's really the all-encompassing opinion out there...

Cheers!
Very true Jim....although I'd bet over 70% of those voters, maybe less...I admit I'm guessing, haven't smoked all cigars there, or even just the Monte 2 and Dip 2 for that matter. Montes are popular so will likely get smoked 1st by almost anyone branching out to Cc's, myself included....and end up with an inflated # of votes as a result of not having a basis for comparison. I haven't had a Dip 2 just yet, but someday hope to...so I can compare for myself. It's one of the reasons I like these types of questions, so folks who have smoked both can chime in.

I'll contend though, after having smoked through a couple 09 Monte 2s now....they're EXCELLENT cigars. You folks who have written em off due to consistency issues might wanna get back on board, as recent production of Monte 2s, along with many other cc's for that matter, has been stellar.

For the record, I would take a PSP2, VR Unicos, or HU #2 over the Monte #2. In that order.

HU #2's have been amazing recently.
I bet you still have a smile on your face over the one I recently gave you.

Hmmmm...the more I read, the more the Partagas #2 looks like a good choice too! How is flavor profile of this one compared to the others?

Is it similar to the PSD4 size in terms of flavor?
