Tigerdirect has been for years a primarily "factory seconds" market. They purchase and sell products that aren't quite as high on the quality scale.

+1 for Newegg.com.

+1 for the iPad almost being a full blown usable product. (it makes a great toy.. but hard to do any real work on it..)

This whole process is making my head hurt. I price it in parts and it gets really expensive really quick, then the whole thing about building one again I am up in the air about. I look for a prebuilt replacement desktop and they have as many negative comments as they do positive. I usually don't drag my feet when I need to replace something, but this is awful....

Like I said in the beginning... "Dude, you're getting a Dell!"

You need to decide whether you want something useful for EVERYTHING, or good for farting around on the net. Every single game they come out with now requires a decent graphics card, which kicks that price up automatically. I would recommend the AMD 570 as it has the best price/ability ratio. The graphics card is the hinge with all these systems as all the processors can do whatever you want, but the graphics card does everything that you can "see". I wouldn't cheap out on the card.
I have been on that whole "I need a new computer soon so I might as well price stuff out" kick. The only stuff I find worthwhile usually ends up in the $900-1200 range.
Good luck man !

Price in the AMD chips are low but so is performance. The AMD chips can't keep up to more powerful gpu's either. If you watch for sales I managed to pick up a i5 2500k, gigabyte ga-z69x-us3h-b3 mobo and 8gb corsair vengeance ram for $309. Even with cheap AMD $100 CPU,$100 mobo and $50 of ram you arent saving enough to make up for what you are giving up.
