When I joined this site, there was a brotherhood, a comraderie here that was incredible. Brothers helping brothers. Advice given to newer members freely, which in turn also aided more experienced brothers in adding to their knowledge. Simply put, it was a family. And my rule, family helps and takes care of family.

Yes, I know, you don't always have to like all of your family either. There have been periods of good times and bad times. Little squabbles occur from time to time, but in the end it has always been brotherhood and cigars.

Lately, there has been a growing attitude of rudeness developing on here. Shit talking, bickering in the threads that gets carried away, calling people out or fronting people off and lot's of thread jacking. An increase in people being put in "time out", as well as temporary bans has occurred lately too. Yep, the thread jacking is out of control. In case some forget, all of these are in direct violation of the rules and is rude behavior. No one is above the rules on here, as Eric and David created this place for folks to get together and talk about cigars, brotherhood and create freindships. You don't need to agree with someone's opinion, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It's called respect. Not everyone is going to be your friend, but respect should be given freely to those you call brothers and sisters.

I am putting this out to you today, because I nearly deleted my account today because of the continued growth of rudeness, which makes it not fun to even come on the site an read. I suggest a lot of us go back and re-read the rules and learn about respect, brotherhood and tolerance. I tend to think before I type, so as not to offend anyone, as well as try and be a voice of reason. Today, Angry Bill nearly came out and than would not have been good fror anyone.

Agree or disagree. You are each open to your opinion. Accept my opinion or don't. Respect it or not, that's up to you. But, if you have a problem with me or anything I have said in this post, send me a PM.

Respectfully,

Bill

 Well said well said ... Those are the exact reasons I chose to not join the other cigar forum sites. I browsed all before I joined, and at the time this one was leaps and bounds above the others in what I was looking to get out of my online experience.

Well put, sir. I'll pull up a chair for ya. Cutter's on the table. Stay a while.

And let it be known that I will always render respect to anyone who calls me "brother."

I noted a growing pessimism and negative culture developing since I started coming here just a few months ago. I was attracted to the kindness, gentlemanly communication, respect, and generosity and I found it to decline ever since. I hope it ceases and the brotherhood shines on.

Amen brother. I've been noticing much the same around here lately, and just the other day checked the profiles of some well known guys to confirm my suspicions that their post numbers of late are way below normal, so it seems we're not the only ones.

I had debated making a similar post to what you did, but couldn't find the right way to put it, so I gave up. Thank you for putting my feelings in to words.

interesting... I've been thinking something along the lines of the opposite lately...

probably its because I've only been around BOTL for half a year, but this is one of the more respectful, entertaining, and informative cigar forums.

maybe it is less so than years prior? I dunno... but as a guy whose been around for half a year, I'll say that I really like the friendliness that comes out of this place. there are a lot of great people on here, and the posts that don't exude kindness are still few in frequency.

then again... maybe I'm one of the offenders which is why my opinion of BOTL is so high :dunno:

Well said Bill... I found that one way to avoid the BS is to selectively view threads. Meaning I don't click on every thread and only on those that interest me. I miss a lot of the hoopla that way.

It's funny I actually just said exactly this to my wife. I stay the hell out of the limited release hype threads and pretty much anything where drama starts up. I stick pretty much to the sports pools, bombers basement and newbie trade areas where people are enthusiastic and friendly.

When you dive in to the mud pit, you can't help but come out dirty.

I'm new to BOTL and have seen emence generosity shown. However, there have been several times I was going to comment and then read further into a thread only to realize I might be chastized for my comment. Maybe not everytime, but I have felt like a minority here. I am an avid cigar smoker, but my budget can't support a lot of smokes, so nothing to share or show off. I also am a democrat, never plan to own a gun, don't care for hunting, and voted for...Obama...gasp. I come here for cigar related info and since joining I find that a lot of discussions I just don't want to participate in as much.
