Didn't that happen with 03 Hoyo De Dieux as well? Look how those turned out.
Yes and I had sampled from several cabs over about a 4 year period. And IMO some were great and others were meh.... All same 03 codes. I wasn't impressed as many here as I thought a couple cabs just survived rough long term warehouse storage better.(IMO)

I would highly recommend a sampler from a BOTL or one of the merchants you can find who can help you. While many CCs tend to the medium, it's a hard thing to commit to a box without trying some. You probably would stand best for like two a piece from the common Marcas until you get your feet wet.

The most common way to start is typically with either RASS, PSD4, JL2, HdMepi2s and maybe either monte 4s or 2s. They're not everyone's cup of tea but usually tend to being good ROTT (or at least with some rest from shipment) and they give you an idea what each of the most common brands will offer. The quality can vary in each case, but they're usually the most commonly bought smokes in a size that's generally popular in as far as Cubans go.

I also highly recommend HUpmann Royal Robustos but they're a bit more and not always found in a sampler.

If you're a full guy that might not completely fit what's out there, but some feel Partagas or Bolivar have more flavor and can tend towards the fuller side. I like both, but I'm not sure either is a real intro stick that I would say go buy anything more than a 10 count not having smoked one.

The San Cristobal de la Habana El principe was my first box order and it is a great cigar. I also bought a box of Monte #4. I don't have much experience to add to this thread, but both of those are fantastic cigars!

I'm new to CCs and I'm looking for recommendations on some good oily, full flavored and maduros to try.
Just joined today.
Great suggestions by other members to purchase sampler packs. Not sure if you are aware of this but Cuban maduro wrappers,Cohiba and the Edition Limitada, are very different from what we Americans are accustomed.
When I thought of maduro it was always Connecticut BL or San Andreas Negro. The Cuban wrappers are different, don't want you to get turned off on Cuban maduros.I am sure a veteran can explain this better than I.
Hope this helps!

I'm not an expert here however some other Brothers were just having this same discussion about the 05 Mag 46 and the general consensus was that after close to 10 years in the card board petacas means that if you really want to get the most out of these your going to have to give them some long term TLC in an empty cab box. A suggestion that was given was to look at the '11 Connie 1s.
Just another option and there were some who did say the 05 Mags were good after 3-4 months rest in the cab, best after a year.
'A suggestion that was given was to look at the '11 Connie 1s.'
Lot of wisdom here........for a change

i love all cc's. srsly, aside from an "off" el rey del mundo choix supreme, every single brand/vitola (about 20 diff, maybe 50 total) have been so good. the only cigar i was absolutely offended by was ryj julietas. top so far have been monte 2's, monte pe's, rass, and el rey choix supreme. i never had a reserva though. also, aging does WONDERS.
