In regards to the OP, I should say that the Oliva V Lance is a solid choice for those new to the Lancero game for a few reasons. The other V vitolas are readily available to do a comparison against and they are inexpensive to go for a few to practice on. By this I mean that Lanceros, due to their construction and lack of girth can burn hot if smoked too fast and can burn out if smoked too slow. If you can grab a few of the Olivas and find your pace, you won't be out more than $20. If you find that the size isn't your thing, call it a fun experiment and move on!
I mentioned a few of my favorites on my list, but definitely don't go after a L40 or another $10+ Lancero until you know if they are your thing and you've semi mastered the art of smoking them. This post is not necessarily intended for the original poster, but for all looking to explore the world of long and skinnies!
In my experience, I rarely find a 'blend' that I like in a size better than a Lancero. I use the term blend loosely here because sometimes it is different due to the number of leaves bunched to make a Lancero in contrast to a larger vitola.
