Where have you seen this macro shift?

Just anecdotal from reading forums and speaking with people. At one point I feel like everyone assumed cubans were always better, now I see more and more people referring to cuban cigars as just cigars from another country, some good, some not so good. Maybe I'm wrong, but it's what I've noticed over the past few years. Especially with Liga Privada, Tatuaje and a good deal of the stuff from the MF factory gaining such popularity.

Saying there's a macro shift based on some forums (US based I'm assuming) and talking to people pretty much all within the US is what I would consider micro. The USA vs the rest of the world. And I would also say that a lot of people in the US can only get NC cigars and that's what they know and like because of it. If/when they do get a cuban cigar, they are not used to the milder flavors and would not prefer it over their usual NC, or they are smoking a bad fake, meaning they of course would prefer their usual NC. I used to prefer NC's and when I did smoke a cuban I thought it was okay, but I didn't prefer it because I liked the bold flavors of a Nica cigar. A lot of things are an acquired taste and I believe cigars are too... cuban cigars were definitely an acquired taste for me and the more I smoked, the more I liked them.
Again, nothing wrong with anyone's opinion that they like NC's over CC's, but to say there's a macro shift is totally way off base IMO.

I'd add further that if we're looking at anecdotal evidence from forum comments, of the comments stating that NC's are better than CCs, many, if not most of the ones I've seen are based on a single experience, or very limited experience, from relatively new guys, often with a clear "sour grapes" attitude because they don't have their own sources yet.

I've abstained from commenting this whole time. (Btw I'm smoking a Opus PL that is on point tonight!) But saying NC cigars (mainly Nica) are the new" Cuba". Is imo senseless. Cuba has always been one of the best growing regions in the world and will continue to be. It's why so many of us here. (Aloha and myself included) have shifted towards CCs over their tenure here.... "With age comes a thing of beauty with CCs."

I really hate to make such a dumb point, and truly do love Cuban cigars - always have - but it actually is a federal crime for an American to bring (import) Cuban cigars into the US - or even purchase them overseas. Let's not talk about how stupid the embargo is - hopefully it will end, but, until it does, and even though enforcement of the laws has been decidedly lax, I don't trust our new, bigger, more invasive federal government to keep turning its head. I'm not sure if mere possession of prohibited goods is a crime - I know importation is, and it may extend to purchase overseas by Americans (I have heard that but not confirmed it), but, think about how much you trust Big Brother before you order that next box of habanos from Switzerland or Canada.
