So today I buried my Father-in-law. Well, we actually didn't bury him because my In-laws bought crypts, so instead he will be in a wall about 15 feet up. I bring this up not get your sympathy (though in advance, I appreciate your condolences) but to discuss what you want done for you when you go to the Great Herf In The Sky. I remembered today how much I hate the traditional funeral service. How much I hate the visitation. And while I always enjoy hearing the Word, a service at a funeral home never really speaks to me. I don't want people to go through that when I am gone.
Even so, I also firmly believe that funerals are for the people left behind, not the one who has gone on. So in the end it will be what ever helps my family deal with the loss. But if I have my way it will be something like the following.
I want to be cremated, with a few cigars, as kind of a last herf. I'd like my ashes put in one of my humidors. I'm not quite sure what to do with them after that ( dump them in the ocean, till them into the garden, put them in the litter box?) If you have any ideas please post them. Then I would like all my family and friends to get together for a nice dinner (It's not hard to find a table for 4) and drink some of my wine and if they want to, smoke some of my cigars. I would rather be remembered while they are doing something enjoyable rather than something miserable.
So what about you?
