Who:my best friend Cliff (he passed on Oct.3,1993)
Where: his front porch on the night of Oct. 3, 1993
What: Cohiba Robusto
I'd give anything to rewind time back to that night and enjoy that last smoke with him again. We finished those cigars and he asked me to go for a ride with him in a 1969 Camaro he had been restoring, but I declined and drove home to get some rest before classes the next day. I got a phone call 2 hours later from his Mom saying I needed to go to the hospital because he had been in a serious car accident. He was already gone when I got to the hospital. I just wish I would have told him how much I loved him and that he was the best friend a guy could ever have. We grew up together and had been best friends since we were 4 years old. It took a long time for me to deal with not going for that ride with him that night and I'll probably never stop thinking about whether I could have changed the outcome of that night if I'd only have taken that ride. Sorry for rambling but it helps to just talk about it sometimes.. Anyway I smoked my first real cuban cigar that night with him and that's my who, where and when answer to the question.

My great grandfather, his front porch, Davidoff Double R. He was a cigar smoker and one of the reasons that I picked up the hobby. "Opa", as he was called (German for grandpa) immigrated to the states in his mid teens by himself. He worked on a cargo ship owned by his father and got off in New Orleans. Shortly after his arrival, he married my "Oma" who was French from New Orleans (imagine that) and the rest is history! He passed when I was about 12 but I spent a bit of time with him as a youngster. I would love to hear some of his stories of his adventures!
