Cigar age is a personal preference. It's kind of like wine, some people like Cabs 20 years old, some like them 5- 8 years old, some like it in current year. Most people believe every wine has a peak window to drink.
Anything exposed to air is going to change over time. My personal opinion is Padron's age nicely. But, I believe cigars find a peak window 3-5 years after exposing to air, especially Padron's. One of my favorites 1926 does well with a 3 year box age. The flavors become more integrated and some of the pepper resides to allow secondary nuances to shine. I have a tendency to buy in boxes and put a date of purchase on the bottom of the box and remove the plastic wrappers if necessary. So my preference is to age cigars.
