Until I heard she was released yesterday, I didn't. I'm glad to see a judge in CA finally upholds the law. I'd like to see that shitbag sheriff Baca get his ass kicked by the judge as well.

I sure as hell never got released early because my goddamn feelings were hurt. (those bastards made me stay until I was sober! :bottle: )

An interesting aside to this, should Sheriffs be elected?
Does it open the door to the same kinds of ethical problems and impropriety that other elected positions hold?
Or is it better for the Sheriff to be directly accountable to the community through elections?
Didn't mean to derail this, but it's something that came up at work.

They are elected in Arizona. And ethical problems and improprieties are probably as bad here, if not worse, than anywhere else.

We have elected Sheriffs in Ohio. Hamilton and Clermont county (near Cincinnati) both have kick ass sheriffs. Simon Leis takes no shit from anyone.

And I thought her screaming and crying was hilarious!!!!!!!

Baca also charged that Hilton received a more severe sentence than the usual penalty for such a crime, but said he would not try to overrule Sauer's decision again.

"The criminal justice system should not create a football out of Ms. Hilton's status," the sheriff said grimly at a press conference.

what exactly was the crime she of which she was convicted and thus sentenced to spend 45 days in jail for? i though it was a probation violation.
so..... violent criminals / drug offenders who violate their probation shouldn't have to spend 1 1/2 more months in jail either, right mr sherriff?

i could go on and on about this - since when does the sherriff's dept decide upon sentencing and overrule the court; the whole story is getting blown out of porportion just because she is a celeberity (that's a whole seperate rant....); why should she recieve any special treatment that the average person wouldn't (she was already in a special unit, that alone is more than the regular joe would get).....

if a county sherriff can't be entrusted to uphold the orders of a court, then he needs to have his gun and badge taken away imediately, and perhaps even spend some time in jail himself.

what if one of his friends/family members was given this sentence. would he break the rules then too?

Exactly. She lost her license + was on probation for 1 year due to a DUI in September. Since then she was stopped twice for driving on a suspended license. If nothing else she went to jail for being a stupid cow that thinks she can do anything she wants.

If she had half a brain she would have just had a chauffeur drive her everywhere.
