Dang Gonz, you get a little fired up about this don't you? To answer your question, it's nothing to me. For all I care, they can legalize it. And I didn't know those drugs passed through so quickly.

Scott,

I'm still waiting to see something that actually has something about someone getting fired because of this. Not saying it didn't happen, just haven't seen it yet. Plenty about people threatening to do it, but not about it actually happening.

I don't know how to post links with firefox, but go to latimes.com and then click the "Nation" section.

so far, refusing to hire smokers, and asking them to submit to URINE tests. Several have quit rather than take test. No actual firing for coming up "dirty" yet, but that would have to be (and is being espoused as ) the end goal/aim of the policy.

This information was sourced from drug test company sites. When using a urinary drug test, the best time to determine the presence of drugs is by testing the first urine of the morning, as it is the most concentrated and will yield the most accurate results. This is most often not the case, and testing is administered in the lunch hour or early afternoon... and accordingly, these numbers are quite optimistic.

The following chart indicates the time period drugs will stay in the body depending on factors such as degree of usage, a person’s metabolism and individual body weight.

The detection periods are applicable to both urinary and saliva drug tests.

Thc 5 to 30 days
Cocaine 2 to 3 days
Opiates 4 to 10 days
Amphetamines 2 to 4 days
Methamphetamines 2 to 4 days
PCP 10 to 14 days
Barbiturates 14 to 21 days
Benzodiazepines 3 to 30 days
Cotinine 2 to 4 days

The blood alcohol concentration at which a person becomes impaired is variable, dependent upon the individual. Specific parameters such as gender, physical size, weight, activity level, eating habits and alcohol tolerance all affect the level of impairment of an individual. However, in general the human body processes alcohol in 4 to 6 hours.

Hair Testing:
What time period does a standard test cover?
It covers approximately 90 days. The hair sample is cut as close to the scalp as possible and the most recent 1.5 inches are tested.

What drugs are included in the Hair Lab Test?
Cocaine, marijuana, opiates, methamphetamine (includes amphetamine and Ecstasy), and phencyclidine (PCP).

How much hair is needed?
Approximately 50 – 70 strands of hair. If insufficient head hair is available, use body hair.

How do drugs get into hair (what is the basis of hair analysis)?
As drugs circulate in the blood stream, they enter and nourish hair follicle cells. As the cells grow, they trap the drug molecules within the hair cells and are eventually "sealed" in the keratinized hair shaft. Thus, the amount and time the drugs are in the blood stream is proportional to the amount of drug detected in the hair.

if you're kidding, you should see the story of that actually happening recently.
Actually wasn't kidding, have been participating in the other thread in Cigars, and felt there was a point to be made. It's a slippery slope when we start giving up rights under the guise of drug use.

The funny thing about an Osco Drug store requiring a piss test is that as a government contractor with a secutity clearance I have not been requested to submit a urinalysis sample for any of the three companies I have worked for.

If someone that has any illegal substances in their system wants a job bad enough they will ensure that the chemicals are flushed before submitting anyway. To me, pre-emplotment drug tests are a waste of money. The better solution to obtain a drug free work place is to make it known that at anytime for any reason an employee will have to submit a random urinalysis.

I was just reading old threads but that makes a lot of sense to me.

I know a lot of people that just flushed their system out, passed the drug test and then went back. Not really effective IMO.

Reminds me of when i was in college and went for a job at Crazy Eddies(remember them you New Yorkers)....They wanted me to take a polygraph, and I said why do I have to? Didn't get the job(then, but a year or so later, did get one at a different location w/o the polygraph, as in New Jersey it was illegal for them to give them)...I hate the assumption that you are lying...

I look at a polygraph and a drug test in 2 different lights.... Drug test does not bother me one bit, but a polygraph just seems wierd to me...

We lose folks from our production facilities all the time. The funny thing is, they all know we have random testing, but they do it anyway!
