Wow, I am packing my bags right now. Looks so nice up there. Good fishing, scenery, what else is there.

Nope, a T/S lens of one description or another is on my wish list, after a few other hunks of glass. This shot was composited from a series of five images made with my Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS USM zoom, that were then Photomerged in Photoshop CS2.

I sold a Canon 45mm 2.8 tilt / shift about a year ago and could kick myself now for doing so, but oh well. I never practiced enough with it to really be able to use the tilt feature to it's fullest, but the shift was great for panaramas.

Have you played around much with any of the HDR software out there? It's perfect for high contrast scenes like you probably see a lot in Alaska. Anytime you might be tempted to use a split neutral density filter, then it's a situation where HDR mapping would shine.

Maybe I'll get up to Alaska to shoot one of these days. Your photos are excellent...keep 'em coming for us!

I've messed around with HDR a bit but I'm often not happy with the results, such as the diffuse "halos" around dark objects that appear against brighter backgrounds like clear sky. I do often bracket exposure on scenes with high dynamic range and blend them manually. For the sunrise scene, I did use a split ND filter, plus a couple of other techniques in post (contrast masking, for one) to pump up the foreground a bit more.

Absolutely stunning scenery. I'd like to go to AK some day.

A friend of mine just returned from a 5-week 14000 mile trip from Cape Cod to the Arctic Circle. On a motorcycle. With a broken foot the last 2000 miles.

Check out these guys. Their "Tone Mapping" software after the HDR merge yields some cool results...sometimes a bit over the top, but still you can see the potential. Looks like no halo effect there, either.

Might be the best hundred bucks that a landscape photographer could spend.

I'm going to pull the trigger on it soon and I'll let you know how it works.

Cool! I went on a cruise and a bus tour around Alaska a while ago.
My friend Pat just moved back out here for college and he's living with me. He's from Palmer. I think it's kinda close (at least in Alaskan perspectives) to Peter's Creek.
Very nice pictures.
