Brayden started his first chemo treatment late Monday evening, March 14th. He was admitted to St. Jude earlier that day to begin getting fluids to prep his system for the chemo. Once his body was ready, they administered the chemo starting around 9pm Monday night and the chemo continued to flow for 24 hours. Initially, the chemo treatment did not start well. Brayden became very fussy and irritable when he began getting the medicine, but soon Doug, the doctors and the nurses realized that Brayden was having what seemed to be an allergic reaction to one of the nauesa medicines they gave him along with his chemo. After a few hours, the storm passed and Brayden settled down to get some sleep.
Today was a much better day. Brayden is still in the hospital, but the chemo medicine has actually ended. The nurses and doctors are now flushing his system again. Once that is complete, he will be discharged to go back to the Grizzly House where they are staying for now. Brayden was able to visit the playroom a couple of times today, which gives him some sense of normalcy. Doug is hanging in there...he has said that dealing with Brayden's first chemo experience was almost like having a newborn baby again. They were up most of the night with their sleeping and eating schedules off. For any parent, it is extremely hard to deal with your child crying and screaming, but to not be able to help or fix what is wrong is the hardest part of all. Hopefully, the next chemo treatment will go a bit smoother since they know one medicine to avoid.
Please continue to pray for Brayden that he will be able to handle the chemo treatments, that his immune system stays strong and that the chemo does the job it is supposed to do to kill any cancerous cells still left in his body. Please continue to pray for Doug to be strong as he is there with Brayden, watching every little thing his son has to go through knowing that all he can do is be there to hold him, comfort him, and love him. Please continue to pray for Janet to be strong as she tries to keep the rest of their lives as normal as possible even thought she would much rather be right there next to her son minute by minute. Please continue to pray for Lexi; even though she is holding up well through all of this so far, continue to pray that she understands why it is necessary for her parents and brother to be away at times and that she knows that they love her so very much. Once again we are so very thankful to everyone's outpouring love and support. There will never be enough words to thank you all for all your done and continue to do!
