Just lost my ferret a few weeks ago. He was older than my 2 little girls. We lost 2 dogs over the last 3 years as well. The ferret was the last of my wife and mine original no children family. Crazy how you get so attached to animals. My heart goes out to you. Hang tough.

HEAVEN'S DOGGY-DOOR

My best friend closed his eyes last night,
As his head was in my hand.
The Doctors said he was in pain,
And it was hard for him to stand.
The thoughts that scurried through my head,
As I cradled him in my arms.
Were of his younger, puppy years,
And OH...his many charms.
Today, there was no gentle nudge
With an intense "I love you gaze",
Only a heart thats filled with tears
Remembering our joy filled days.
But an Angel just appeared to me,
And he said, "You should cry no more,
GOD also loves our canine friends,
HE's installed a 'doggy-door"!

Hang in there...

Thanks for all the great comments. The house is pretty lonely without him. I think we need another pup around here. We are gonna start looking. No dog can every replace Syd, but a puppy can sure help us keep our mind off his passing.

I know how it is. When our last one passed away, it was several days before I could put away his food and water bowls. We still have Missy, and when it's her time, it'll just tear me apart. Again, just think of all the good times and the fact that Syd isn't suffering now.

Michael, you and Sydney are in my thoughts and prayers.

When we lost our first greyhound, it was an eye-opening experience in how close we get to our pets.

Take care of yourself, Michael.

I really feel for you Cowboy. I am a HUGE dog lover myself, and have always had dogs. My parents live in town and I take every opportunity I have to go see my dogs (/their dogs) and hang out with them. I see them every couple of days, and it always warms my heart how they act like I've been gone for an eternity when I open the door. Few things are as awesome as a dog who is stoked to see you, wagging, dancing around, ready to play.

I lost a long time companion of mine, a 14 year old Pembroke Corgi, named Murphy, about a year ago. It was horrible, but she was suffering, and it was for the best that we let her go. I know she will be waiting around for my to throw her a tennis ball again in the future, along with all of the other dogs I've had in my lifetime. It sucks, but I promise, getting a puppy will help. They are a handful, and will keep you occupied, and also, developing that bond with an animal again is an amazing thing. Keeping you in my thoughts cowboy. Much love for dog lovers.
