Get late 09 boxes IMO. It gives you at least a chance of grabbing a good box. Look for dark wrappers as well. While it may not mean they're going to be better then lighter wrappers, it seems the late 09s with dark wrappers seem to be "on". Nov or Dec boxes.

Has anyone had a good Monte #2 from a recent box (09,10) ? I've had some good Monte Petit Edmundos and some great Monte #4 but I have been disapointed with the two #2 that I have had so far. I hear great things about them but I'm hesitant to invest in any given my past experience.
I bought one in Saskatoon last Spring around this time. In all honesty, I was very disappointed in both the construction and the flavor. For $30+ per stick, I wasn't happy.

Blame that on Canada's ridiculous taxation though. Go to any number of online sources where you can get a M2 for ~$7.75/stick and it becomes a great bargain imo.

Never had an impressive P2. Upmann #2s are good with age, but I'll happily smoke my MC#2s. They ARE inconsistant, so use a vendor who will hand select a good box for you.
Never had a good one Bass man, but I do believe your other statement may have something to do with it. Although I can't afford EMS #2's at the moment.

We had not seen any '09 Monte that were not ready for the shelves. These were smoking fine.

Enjoy your cigars.

I have not had a good monte #2, but the sublimes, Edmundos and petits have been VERY good. This is an opinion from limited experience. While my experience my be limited, I think I know what smokes well and the Sublimes and Petits are have been excellent.
I smoke alot of Monte 2.....and couple of boxes of monte sublimes and some petit edmundo. Jack...my brother I dont know what the hell you have been smoking but you must have had bad luck with the monte 2.
This cigar is montecristo, I am currently smoking from boxes from 2006, 2009 and 2010. They are amazing, the petit edmundo I cant even see how that cigar would stand a chanse, not even when they are on do they have dthe deepth and balance of monte 2. Sublimes is a great cigar and cost more than twice as much, but it is not twice as good.

So for a guy who smoked alot of monte 2...I would stay away of boxes from 2007-2008 but besides that they are extremly good.
