POTOB once told be about something he read about OVER-retrohaling. I guess the idea is that if you retrohale too often, you can tire your taste/smell out. He and I are both musicians, so we liken it to "ear fatigue" where after recording all day with headphones on, your ears are actually throbbing like feet that have been walked on all day...

I think the trick to counter-acting this is to retrohale about once or twice per 3rd.

This is amazing advice. lol. I am new to cigars ( only a few months in) and I was told to retro-hail. So of course being me, my first few cigars I was like "well Ill just exhale all the smoke through my nose every time." :hammersma big mistake. hahaha. Then I left a comment on a YouTube video ( CigarObsession was the channel I think) and someone told me only to retro-hale 1-3 times per third. After my sinus' recovered I stared doing this and it made all the difference. I could finally taste a lot of the flavors everyone was talking about. I was also told to take a breath through my nose and mouth at the same time after blowing the smoke out and you can get even more flavor. This took me some time to learn to do but it works.

I retro on every single draw. Have been doing it since day 1.

Still get lots of nuances and tasty characteristics and have never felt a "sinus fatigue". Everyone's different I suppose

+1....well, not since day 1, but since I about year 2 when I learned to retrohale. Must admit that with fishing/yard gars that might hang out of my mouth for minutes at a time, I don't retrohale them. However, my tongue gives out long before my sinuses do. After 4 or 5 cigars, my tongue takes a dive, but my sinuses hang in there tough.

Lol. That's funny.

If retrohaling hurts, try just retrohaling the last 10% or so of the smoke. Breath most of it out through your mouth, then just let the tail end through your nose. It'll be cooler and smoother, but still give you a lot of that extra flavor.
This. I retrohale just about everything I smoke, but with some I let most of the smoke out of my mouth before doing it, if it's a really strong one.

I smoked an Ashton Maduro today that was about 5 years old. The flavors were so delicate that I was struggling to pick up much. That's when the retro hale really comes in handy for me. I can get more flavor when my palate is struggling. Stronger cigars I rarely retro hale on purpose. I will instinctively once in a while, but it's usually too much and hurts a little.

Maybe its just me, But I feel like I get the sweater notes of a cigar when I french inhale. And I get any sour or notes when I retro hale.
