BOTL, this is my first post to the forum. I'm a 'new' frequent smoker, but have smoked cigars infrequently (maybe 6 or so sticks a year) over the past three years. My new 100 count humidor has been stocked 3/4 full with samplers and 5 packs of all vitolas from the devil site, and I'm slowly making my way through them to see what I like after doing A LOT of reading on this site to educate myself.
Today I had the Rocky Patel Decade Torpedo. I lit it with a torch but couldn't see any red 'embers' from the foot when lighting it. The first half of the cigar was delicious and nutty, but the burn wasn't razor sharp. Half way through, the burn slowed and eventually stopped. I thought this was somewhat odd since I wasn't smoking it that slowly (puff or so every minute). I re-lit it, but it went out again after another quarter way through. The same thing happened during the last quarter, and I had to touch it up 3 times to keep it going. Near the nub I decided to take it apart, and it appeared that the filler was moist and dark in color.
Has anyone had this problem before, or could this cigar have been a dud or over humidified? I've had it in my humidor for about a month, and haven't had any other burn issues with cigars pulled from my box.
Also, any recommendations along the lines of the Decade? I really enjoyed the Sabor Cubano Maduro (6x52), but have disliked the Perdomo 10th Anniv. Champagne Robusto and CAO L’Anniversaire Cameroon Robusto. I guess my tastes are along the lines of average strength, richer, nuttier flavors, and medium-full body.
Thanks, gents!
