Putting dudes in your mouth and pulling cigars from your box, you sure your name is Brian? You remind me of a chick named Monica.

Kidding aside it does sound like a storage issue like some have stated. How was the draw pre-light?

haha, fixed, Mike! Probably not a good 'word' to misspell in my first post! The pre-light draw was fine, and I didn't notice any problem.

Thanks for all the recommendations with regard to the RPs. I'm going to give them another try (including the Olde World Reserve), since construction doesn't seem to be a problem. Perhaps the next one I try will be better constructed and I can concentrate on the taste, rather than constantly re-lighting.

Ciggy, thanks for the heads-up on dry resting. I'll definitely do that if a stick feels too spongy in the future. G-dub, I have a fiver of Padron 4000s that I got last week. I'm really anxious to try them, but I want to let them rest for a couple weeks first.

Interesting that most here don't like RPs. Is it because of the flavor/body or construction?
Welcome to BOTL!

I wouldn't say most dislike Rocky ... some here like them (myself included) others don't (those who don't are usually louder is all :bangbang:)-- different strokes for different folks. You'll often find that for guys who've been smoking for a long time (or smoke pretty frequently) tend towards the full smokes (flavor, body, and strength). Rocky doesn't put out any truly full smokes, so there you go.

I smoke and like RPs (on my way to smoke a Signature right now). Good smokes at a good price, imvho. There are other cigars that some people swear by that I just plain don't like at all--that's what's great about having thousands of cigar lines to choose from :)

As to your burn issue on the Decade, I'm going to agree that it was probably over humidified (a very common issue at cigar shops as well as when you first receive cigars from an online shipper in my experience). You'll find that many of the guys here keep our smokes at 65% instead of the "recommended" 70% because our cigars just seem to burn better when kept at a slightly lower rH%.

For recommendations, try the RP Renaissance if you haven't yet (it's an RP Edge with a Sumatra wrapper, similar to the Decade's wrapper). Also try the Tatuaje Havana VI line (red label), Padilla Signature 1932, Perdomo ESV '91, DPG Cuban Classic, and Illusione Eperany. These are all fantastic medium or med-full smokes that are very reasonably priced. For something a bit pricier, try Liga Privada No. 9, Padron Anniversary 1964, Arturo Fuente Anejo, My Father, Ashton VSG, and Diamond Crown Maximus.

Welcome to BOTL!! I bought a box of RP Decade Torpedo's 2 years ago when they were released after having a pre-release Toro. The Torpedo was not as good to me, at the time. I just happened to smoke one of those sticks last week and it was much better than I remember. They seem to be worth the $10 now. The Padron 64 line is a much better choice, but more expensive.
Yes, the Decades REALLY improve with age. I like the fresh, but LOVE them with age! They flavors really blend and the cigar gets very creamy ... mmmmmm!
