I hear a lot of guys talking about their cigar "rotation." This seems particularly true of the older smokers I know, though not exclusively. I'm not sure if the "rotation" could be as simple as a small list of cigars they smoke very frequently, to a specific "My Thursday morning cigar is the Boli PC," etc.

I've never done this. There are cigars I go to more frequently, but I"m pretty much a "what do I feel like smoking now" and grab it from the bin guy (though I do have a section of "stuff I'd like to smoke soon." I am open to trying out something new, however.

So for those of you who have a cigar rotation, or have done so in the past, why do you do it and what benefits do you find in this? How exactly do you format your "rotation?"

Thanks!

Personally, I tend to smoke what I enjoy, if I run out I buy more of it and in the mean time I find something else that tickles my fancy. I've never really had a set regimen when it comes to cigars, in fact I find myself trying new things a majority of the time.

When I say into my rotation it just means that I am going to be buying and smoking more of them. I dont have a plan of what Im going to smoke until I reach into the humi, or maybe a few days before hand.

It like your car tires. It will keep your palate from getting unusual wear and tear. Rotation does keep things fresh. The palate doesn't grow tired of the same smoke day in and out.

I know guys that literally have 5 or 6 different sticks they smoke... basically ever day. Like, if they smoke two sticks a day, it will be from those 5 or 6 different cigars.

I smoke less than one cigar a day, so I tend to not smoke the same thing twice that often. When I buy a 5er of something, it will likely last me a while, because I like trying new cigars more than anything else.

This is slowly becoming me. When I started smoking I had a whole bunch of different stuff that I tried but I keep narrowing it down. Soon I'll be down to 8 or so sticks that I go to while occasionally buying a single. I guess this makes it easier to narrow it down from though, lol.

T52 is the only one that I smoke at least once or twice or .... times a week. The rest are what I feel like at the time.

To me, it just depends on which cigar calls my name when I look in the humi. Most of my stuff came from samplers and 5-packs I've bought (only bought 3 boxes ever, can't really afford to...) so I really don't have enough of any one stick to have a rotation lol.

Since I'm relatively new in cigars, I have a rotation... My humidor came with a tray, so I load up the top tray with singles that I haven't tried, and put them in the order I want to smoke them, then I used a cedar divider to create a small space in the humidor for overflow from the tray in my rotation... The rest of my humidor is the leftover from 5packs that I buy...

I smoke from the rotation when I have time to relax, enjoy it, and qualitatively decide if it's a "restocker", an "occasional", or a "no". If I don't have time to smoke from tip to nub and really enjoy it, I reach for whatever I feel like from the 5-pack overflow.

It just made sense to me when I started.

Still exploring. I've got a couple boxes of stuff I enjoy (Lot 23 mad, Tabacos Baez, and PSD4), but I tend to buy 5 and 10 packs most of the time and expand what I enjoy.

I predict you final 8 will include these sticks in no particular order...Monte Cristo #2's that have been sitting in my basement for years unhimidified, Padilla Obsidians, Graycliff G2 Turbos, Swisher Sweets Grape Natural Cigarillo, Black & Mild Apple Fast Breaks, a big chunk of my poo, etc, etc...

Tatuaje, Liga Privada, Illusione, a flipped cigar by Cohiba7 or Cigarhombre, try something new....REPEAT. (we rotate "flips") Works for me.

It works, largely because I tend to smoke F/S/S, hence my rotation extends over two weekends.

When the Mrs. is in Asia. I am bringing books, lunch, accessories, and smoking two cigars EVERYDAY.

Good things Dr. Z is underage. he knows where the good liquor is.

When I think of rotation of cigars I thought you meant rotating them in my humi cabinet. I do that every 30 days, all cigars on the top go to the middle, the middle goes to the bottom and the bottom rotates back to the top.

Ive never thought of it as "rotation" but its probably true-I work off of approx. 10 different fav. smokes then add to it or subtract as new offerings come along.
I eleiminated "rotation" in my avallo humidor by having 6 fans doing the grunt work for me-lol

To me:

When someone says they are adding a cigar to the “rotation”, they are a baller. This is the guy who has 10-15 boxes of smokes that he smokes from on a regular basis (his rotation), and many more boxes set aside for aging (not in rotation). When he finds that his 2005 Monte whatevers are smoking beautifully right now, he pulls them from the aging racks and adds them to the rotation. For me, I would say my entire collection IS my rotation, but I’m only sitting on 250+ sticks. A few boxes, but they are all open and being smoked, the rest singles. Of course my collectibles are set aside for indefinite ageing.
