NOLA = Cash Only for me!

I agree with CigarSaint. Its always best to just use cash in questionable establishments. Trust is not an affordable commotidy anymore.
If I can't swipe my card, from now on, I'll go to an ATM and pay the fees there instead of being cleaned out.

Which stores were they? I'm going to be in NOLA Saturday night and Sunday.
It wasn't any of the shops there. I know the owner of one and used my credit card there.

This was at a resturant (in 99% sure is where the info got taken). The name is in the first post..... Good food, crappy service!

Well...
I got my card canceled at Visa.
Went to the bank and made sure it was canceled. Filed a dispute and got a new card.
The whole thing is going to take about 7-10day to wash... as soon as I get the Police Report I filed today (that will be done on Monday...).

The bank said they will wash off the NSF fees once the ordeal is cleared. But Im not sure how far into the negative I can go before they cut me off......

I emailed Walmart and have to fill out and fax a fraud form.

Looks like I will get my money back from Walmart maybe faster than the bank and Visa. But thats just a guestimate.

I know there were only three employees in the bar/resturant. So I narrowed down to two.... The owner will be getting a phone call soon.

I was hoping VISA would refund the money right away, but it being a Debt card, they told me I had to take up the loss with the bank and the bank would take up thier loss with VISA and VISA would do an investigation... but Im thinking for $324... VISA is just going to write it off as a loss.

that just plain sucks.. i try to use a credit card for all purchases and only use my debit card to pay my credit card. It seems like a hassle but it helps me sleep at night.

Sorry Shawn Sucks man!

I had this happen out of country at an ATM. yes a crooked ATM my Bank at the time was U.S Bank in front of the I.N.S. Bldg was a bank of three atm machines I had used before with no problems. I usually take cash and only use cash but stayed a couple extra weeks.

To make a long story short I have two atm card and tried at all three atm's to withdraw $400 U.S. about 428 colones. no receipt or anything just a screen that went blank saying sorry transaction failed.

I went to my 2nd choice and got what I wanted then promptly went to the hotel and checked my account it all looked good. I checked daily and on the fourth day they all appeared the same day I was returning to the states.

I figured as most would it would be fine. Turns out visa international rules are different outside the states. The merchant just has to say the transaction happened and your screwed. I'm sure a lot will argue with this and trust me I lived it for almost a full year $1200 plus change was gone and U.S. Bank would do nothing to help.

As I said short version is I made a royal pain of myself including complaining to the Comptroller of Currency and every other institution, consumer group. Every member of the board of Directors of U.S. Bank and a couple dozen others. Finally it was costing them more to tell me no than it was to just pay me so they did. People may debate the rules but from what I was told by everyone it is that easy to rip off tourists. most would just give up but that was a lot of money to me and it got personal.

I already had another account set up at a different bank and the same day they refunded the money I walked into the local branch and closed all my accounts, the branch manager who tried to talk me out of it stopped after about five minutes of my story and apologized.

I told all my friends on the board we use for overseas travel about the atms in question and felt good for sticking with it.

So as most said please be careful with atm cards.
