always have a knife on me for work purposes. Figured I might as well learn how to use use it in self defense. Hope that never happens cause there is a big difference between a class and real life. Also learning how to use a pocket stick aka Kubaton, Koppo stick. The pain that these little tools can inflict is amazing once you learn the techniques.

Command precense....If you carry yourself in the manner that nobody can f-with you...If you exude that attitude...Chances are, they won't.....But, as was said, if that fails, you WILL have to fight...In that case, I have several things to fall back on..Depending on where I am, what I'm doing....Walking around that place I took my mountain vacation..It was all about the command precense....Hadj may only have 1 magazine..If you look like you would destroy him in a heartbeat, he probably will not risk it on you..If you and your patrol come through, looking like a bunch of rag bags, not payin attention...He may decide you're worth...Same thing applies stateside...

Now, I'm not saying eye-f**K everybody you walk by, by any means..>Don't do that, it will probably get your ass kicked/arrested/etc etc...

You are quite right. Trying to eyeball everyone will most likely get you in a fight/arrested/ass kicked. Command presence is a term I have not heard before, but I like it. "Not willing to be fucked with" is how I put it, and it has worked for quite a long time.

Truth to tell, I can't remember the last time I got in a fight, but I remember a couple of times when things could have lead to a fight. Just looking someone in they eyes and telling them that they don't scare you and "might" be making a mistake, without raising your voice is almost as good as pulling a gun or calling the cops. But, as I stated before you must be willing to poke someones eye out and bite an ear off........

Most predators look for the sick and the weak. If you do not fit in that categorey, they tend to leave you alone.

(Total non-sequitor here....I find if you take the same attitude with state workers and especially law enforcement, you tend to get treated more politely as well).

I have taken an interest in self defense in my old age (44 years old). Been taking Filipino martial arts classes. Called "Kali". Basically stick and knife fighting.
Its called Arnis, Ron. When I come by you have to show me the short and long sticks. The short stick is called "Espada de daga"

I have a second tuba that I carry around in the car to bash people over the head with. It's cheap because I buy used pieces o' crap for this purpose. I don't like using the bell of the tuba over the head, it's just not as effective because the metal gives easier. The best technique I found I stole from boxing. Two quick jabs with the bottom bow of the tuba to the face will daze the ne'erdowell; then I can swing that tuba around for the haymaker. This doesn't work well with trombones or trumpets, they don't have the mass of metal to take your foe down.

I usually carry a microtech auto or a Karambit for self defense... but only as a backup for my Glock :gangfire:
