I can take off whenever I want. as long as we are not busy, which is never. it's a good problem to have.

if I make a lot of progress during the week I can block off some hours that allow me to take off early. but I save those for occassions when I have to travel to fuckin' bachelor parties and weddings.

next fall, hopefully I'll be able to take fridays before college football games off.

I get 3 sick days a year but then have PTO. I hardly take off much so if I get sick I'm staying home. I can also work from home so that helps if I get sick.

No sick days, just PTO for whatever reason. At 5 (calendar) years with the company, I had 5 weeks of PTO. Then there are 10 Holidays. I got sick over New Years with the flu, and took 4 on the very first week of the year. No carry over at the end of the year - use it or lose it. It usually makes for a pretty unproductive December with the combination of holidays and people using up remaining PTO.

No sick time for me. My job is horrible when it comes to benefits/vacation/sick time etc. No sick time on top of only matching 15 percent 401k and it takes 5 years to build 2 weeks vacation. It's pretty horrible. Hopefully I'll find something better soon.....like winning the lottery.
Yea the car business is very brutal like that...sadly

Bah. We get 5 days "personal time" every year. It doesn't carry over. Nothing does. I currently get 2 weeks vacation. And guess what! If I manage to stick around for another f'ing 9 years I'll get another year! Yes friends, you heard it right. 15 years to get 3 weeks with this jackass company. Nice, huh?

none officially...if we're sick, don't work. However, since I work out of my house, a sick day is always also a work day. Same for vacation days, I'll always check the blackberry for emergencies...

As a Fed employee, I accrue 4 hours of paid sick leave each 2-week pay period. There is no limit to carryover, goes with me if I transfer to another Fed agency, and remains to my credit if I have a break in service. However, unlike annual leave (vacation), it has no cash-equivalent value at separation/retirement.

I'm salaried, so if I'm sick, then I still get paid, but my employer does offer a wellness bonus for those who take less than a certain amount of sick time. In the past five years I have taken 1/2 day of sick leave.

Interesting topic, 'cause I deal with this stuff for my agency all the time. Interesting to see the differences.

We get 64 hours sick leave plus 32 hours family/personal leave per year. No carry-over. 80 hours vacation per year, 120 hours after 5 years, 160 over 10 years. Vacation carries over for up to 2 years, after which time it maxes out.

I can't earn comp or OT as an administrator, but employees earn comp (2 year max out) or OT.

Paid retirement with hazardous duty supplement.

That's the standard state law enforcement benefit. Definately better than I had when I was working for the county.

I'm maxed out at my company with 3 weeks sick/personal days and 3 weeks vacation. Nothing can roll-over.

I worked for a very large company for 10 years, back when you could accrue vacation days, sick days, etc. When I left, I had a full year of vacation saved up. We cut a deal where I would continue to advise them (maybe a couple of hours a month) and they kept me on the payroll for a year (which included health care benefits). It was quite nice at a time when I had become an entrepreneur and had invested every penny of my savings into my business.

In California, earned vacation is a form of compensation. Once earned it cannot be taken away. If I earn 15 days and I quit tomorrow, the company adds 15 days worth of pay to my last check. Companies can change the way you earn days (like stopping you from earning any more until you use a certain amount), but once earned, vacation days are yours.
Sick days are another matter.

No vacation or sick days for me. All we get are floating holidays for when we work on certain holidays which gives us a day we can take off and get paid for.
